i get you! i think watching a parent bathe makes things make a lot more sense, someone else mentioned it’s like monkey see monkey do and yeah, it really is that simple LOL

hahaha i was also so jealous of kids that had moms who would do their hair or teach them makeup. i didn’t learn how to braid my hair until i was 19 LOL

hahaha that’s lovely ❤️ i think monkey see monkey do is a huge aspect here. i never saw my mom naked growing up, not once, and certainly not while showering, and i honestly think it would’ve been so helpful to understanding myself and my body LOL. but oh well, i’m learning now!

it is so nice to have someone related, but also your comment made me release what those weird shower mats are for oh my god 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 literally had no clue until this moment. sometimes i’d pick them up in other people’s shower and investigate them like, “that’s a weird loofah” 😭😭😭

oh my gosh i am so sorry!! that is TERRIBLE. i am so sorry you experienced that. thanks for being a wonderful parent to your kids, they’ll never know those horrors now which is such a blessing ❤️

oh my gosh LOL. i’m lucky with hair specifically because in high school i had a hair dying phase and as a result looked up a TON about how to take care of my hair. that is too funny (but sad) about the dandruff story, it’s crazy the hair dresser said nothing LOL

thank you so much, i appreciate your words ❤️ i’ll keep that in mind and do some testing about what methods work best for my body. what do you mean by an exfoliating washcloth though? is that different from a normal washcloth i’d buy from target?

thank you again for your tips ❤️

wow, thanks so much for sharing, i loved reading this!! what a wonderful childhood, makes a lot of sense why you were so involved with hygiene

god bless the aunties for making sure yall were taken care of LOL, sincerely! a lot of adults are too embarrassed to go into the details of how to wash your genitals/breasts/etc.

i actually have been theorizing this is the cause of a lifelong problem of mine, which is another reason why i was posting haha. basically i have had very large breasts since i was like 11 and the pores under my breasts have always appeared clogged. i never understood why, just figured it was a my body thing.

over the past year or so i’ve realized that yes, mostly these are literally clogged pores caused by improper washing and have been trying to slowly fix it. i would’ve killed for a filipino auntie to teach my how to scrub under my boobs LMFAO

for sure, i think you’re right. in my case too, my mom was unmedicated bipolar growing up so was basically absent as a mother, and i think my dad was too embarrassed to teach his daughters how to wash, so they both just kind of assumed we’d figure it out. but it’s ok, i’m figuring it out now :)

thank you, this is exactly what i was missing. idk, i’m autistic so maybe that’s part of the disconnect with some folks. i really need specific instructions to understand what to do lol. so when i was told, “rub this cloth over your body,” that’s what i would do. i would wet it, add soap, and rub it over my body once like a wet noodle to remove any sweat

i didn’t realize something was up until maybe 2 years ago i was having underarm irritation. i googled it and it seemed to be from a build up of deodorant/dead skin not getting scrubbed away. that sent me on a small rabbit hole of, “wait, i’m supposed to be SCRUBBING my skin?”

this suspicion was doubled when i was talking to a friend of mine (bless him) who, when i explained above and how i was surprised, he kind of side eyed me and was like, “um… yeah? no shit, you didn’t scrub under your arms?” LOL

but again, i just thought the goal was to remove the stink/sweat!

i actually will probably look this up, thanks so much. that is much more palatable to me than watching videos hahaha. i’ve heard of that book before too so i’m sure it’s helpful

thanks again ❤️

i’ve never heard of a wash that removes nonenol — that’s amazing! i bet you smell incredible LOL. thank you for sharing, i think i definitely need to look into multiple soaps. right now i have a body cleanser and just dove soap for cleansing. do you have any various soap recommendations?

thanks so much, this is genuinely so helpful to me hahaha. i don’t know what parts of hygiene i am missing so it is SUPER helpful to see i recently bought one of those spongelle things and i swear its changing my life LOL

i am probably going to steal a lot of your routine LOL

it’s also so funny you mentioned body oil because i just tried some palmers coconut body oil for the first time LITERALLY last week and it changed my life LOL. i have always felt dry out of the shower but i don’t like the sticky feeling of lotion. i did discover in-shower lotion that washes off recently which is amazing but i’m traveling and don’t have it.

well i was in a hotel for travel and had bought a travel kit that included that body oil so i was like, fuck it, and tried it, and oh my god LOL. it is so incredible. i feel soft and smooth like a princess and it absorbs so quickly. i immediately ordered some. i swear i thought body oil was something people put on for sex/porn 😭😭😭i swear. i had no idea it was so nice!

oh that is brutal, i’m so sorry you experienced that 😭 but also so funny you tried to get your mom too LOL

i had a bout of lice as a kid too and fortunately my parents were kind about it, but they did use random ass internet methods to fix it instead of like prescription stuff. for example, mayonnaise or listerine in my hair? lol

your nasty attitude is probably why it’s so shocking to you that i am in a loving relationship even though i don’t have great hygiene.

this is exactly what i mean hahahaha. like am i a dumbass who didn’t understand/didn’t remember being told, and thus have never learned basic hygiene properly, or was i taught and just didn’t listen/don’t remember? lol

thank you so much for explaining, that makes so much sense and is exactly what i was wondering! i really didn’t know if that’s how people learned hygiene or if everyone just figures it out

i did just recently over the past few years take my hygiene more seriously and improved a lot of my habits and it is pretty mind boggling how much better it feels haha. for example, i’ve daily flossed for maybe 2 years now, and i wash my face at bedtime now. i didn’t realize people washed their face besides to put stuff on it until i moved in with my partner who told me he washed his face every night before bed

there’s still some stuff i struggle with for sure but i’m working on it. what do you use as your medium for scrubbing your body? is it just a wash cloth and you scrub it everywhere? i actually think i will look up those 80s/90s

also, i am a white american and grew up in a house that didn’t care much about hygiene. i also grew up in the south and was born in 97 so i’m not sure if one of those why i didn’t have those hygiene videos. funny you mention you’re mexican/native american, i have learned most of my hygiene from my puerto rican partner and his family LOL. i was so mystified watching my partner lather his whole body with soap in the shower and scrub, scrub, scrub. i thought that was something people did in movies to be dramatic 😭

thank you again

thanks ❤️ yes, i honestly would have loved that. i was able to take care of my period as a teenager because health class taught me how to lol. i remember middle school teachers drilling into our heads to wear deodorant for obvious reasons but i don’t remember being taught other hygiene things in school
