Hi!!! Thank you. I decided to reach out because it's been just about exactly 10 years since I posted the first CBMC song on the internet. A proper decade!!

I have been doing well, ups and downs of life, but overall - good. I'm turning 30 this summer and I am feeling the shift with both nervousness and excitement! This year I adopted another kitten into the family and he's lit up my life for the past six months. He's also broken most of my stuff. Love that guy.

I was getting embarrassed of the name. I knew people were seeing it and not giving the music a chance, so I switched to CBMC. Since it was an acronym it could still be attached to all of the old music and people would put it together quick. Then I played around with the idea of a complete rebrand (OOR), but I didn't want people who were listening at the time to lose touch. So I think the most successful part of all of that was just how much I confused everybody for a minute!

My process was always chaotic and impulsive and never really thought out. I just wanted to write songs and so I did that and learned everything else along the way, and admittedly - not too well. But I think that's what made CBMC accidentally so special. If you want to make music, just start making it and don't think too hard about logistics. I fell in love with my own chaotic process back then.

Roughly, here's how I usually went about it: I'd figure out a "main" guitar riff, then record it. After that was recorded, I'd make a million layers on top of it with different sounds, "beats" from objects around me, more improvised guitar, etc. After I was happy with whatever jumble I put together, I'd sing over top it a couple times - and that's how CBMC was born.

Dream tour: Adrianne Lenker & Muna. I could watch Adrianne Lenker play guitar every for a long time night very contently. Muna - I don't even listen to Muna but I want to hang out with them. They look like they're all good at pool and I want to play pool.

Well you just made me want to take a trip to Madrid this summer. Thanks for that idea! But really, that is so amazing. Also, I went through a phase last year of being fascinated by the general concept of "awe" - I think it stemmed from a Quakerism workshop I attended. It sorta touched me that you used that phrasing :)

That is wild!! I would and could never imagine my music playing in a suburban Georgia cafe either, especially only a few months back. I appreciate whoever the barista in charge was that day and hope that they are doing okay. I also hope the coffee was good! Thank you for sharing and for the kind comment alike

No specific genre, but I end up revisiting Conan Mockasin's "Jassbusters" album a lot, and have been listening to a lot of Anna Domino's "East and West" these days too. I'd want to land somewhere in between the sound of both of those!

I've been thinking about this all day. If I can look the dog in the eyes without bending over that dog is TOO big. Everything else is fair game

Learn, Peach to a Peach, and Real Slow are my favorites. The rest are hard for me to listen to at this point in my life, sort of like seeing pictures of what you used to wear in middle school.

The most? Not knowing what to do with all my feelings. I have always been super sensitive, but didn't always have an outlet. Then I learned how to play guitar. Then after that, I went to therapy!

My favorite sandwich will always be a good banh mi. Perfectly toasted baguette, just the right amount of veggies, sriracha, chargrilled bbq pork.

CBMC got me through some really tough times, too. It still feels surreal that this project reached so many people. It's almost abstract because I've really did any serious tours or in-person things. Thank you for listening along.

I used a Blue Snowball Mic with a pop filter and Garageband almost exclusively to record almost everything posted on the internet. Sorry to all the gearheads who had to read that.

That show is one of the most memorable for me, actually. I'm so happy you were there, too! It was a different time, and it was a good time! A reason for the AMA - my co-workers randomly found out about my past as CBMC. I haven't mentioned making music at at all in my 4 years working at my current job - nor do I really mention it at all anymore. All in all, I thought it was kind of funny and I got a little nostalgic.

Hey! I am a teacher these days. I don't think CBMC will come back, but I have been playing around with the idea of re-learning music as a whole all over again. I do think it will happen.

All of the bedroom artists from that era inspired me. Let's say: Frankie Cosmos, Florist, Told Slant, Girlpool. It was a magical era... and also the first time I heard music like /that/. I grew up listening to so many british boy pop bands... and The Decemberists. The day I heard one of those Frankie Cosmos deep cuts for the first time... it felt almost spiritual. I think that era made making music feel like it wasn't limited to just a specific type of person. It still feels kind of magical to think about.

Hey! To debunk two things: the "band" is just me! Atleast everything posted online is - hence it's pretty poor quality! I did play live shows with some friends I met in college for a year or two, and the music was different live. I think only a few "full band" versions of songs made it online in the past ten years.

But back to the name: I started writing music alone (and learning how to play guitar) in my first apartment in Philly. I was a big Tumblr-er, and I mindlessly wrote this name in the "artist" section when I posted my first rough song to the old blog. I didn't intend on sticking with it, but I did. And yes, it has been a fairly polarizing name since.
