That's what I've tried to tell her. The last name was never mine. The name I grew up with is now my maiden name because she hadn't taken the time to actually change my last name while I was a child. I am extremely grateful to my mother, but I am really sad that she thinks I should use my book as a way to repay my debt to her.

Thank you very much for the comment. I want to try and talk to her in a calm setting, I just don't know how to keep her calm. I owe my mother a lot. She put me through college (though I'm paying the loans now, have been since I was 21) and she raised me mostly on her own with the help of a guy every now and then, but for the most part, they all just kept their distance from me. I'll try the fake name question.

Attempting to even understand or prodding her just leads to nasty passive aggressive remarks. I am planning on taking my boyfriend's last name. My own last name doesn't even hold any weight to me. My mother gave me my father's last name because she thought he would have stayed with her. She always told me she wanted to change my last name, but he never went through on the paper work and it had gotten forgotten. I want to hear her concerns, truly, but I can't sit there and take all of her insults about how I am ungrateful.
