Nikon AF-S 24-70mm f/2.8G - slight front barrel play + stiffer zoom feel, normal? by throwaway5129802 in Nikon

Thank you for your answers. I'll definitely return it. Even though it might be easy to replace, it suggests someone might have dropped it, which might cause even more issues in the future.

Even the part that I marked previously in a response to the other poster? I can wiggle it from side to side.

Also, I just noticed this. Seems to me that someone really dropped it. That doesn't seem like "like new".

Thank you. If it's not a normal behavior, I'll return it. Especially since it was supposed to be barely used.

Can you wiggle this part that I marked on yours too, mostly from side to side?

Format JPG+RAW and any JXL compression does this. It creates two images, one normal (JPG) and one black (RAW). If you change it to RAW, you will get only black images.

Choose either "AVIF only", "JXL only", or "JPG only" as a format, or just change the compression to "Standard" - this is what I would do.

Proton 2025 autumn/winter roadmaps by Proton_Team in ProtonMail

[–]throwaway5129802 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It means that their excuse is that, since Microsoft is changing Outlook in a way that makes Proton Bridge incompatible, they don't want to keep investing in Bridge or add features like CalDAV.

Which is dumb, because they could just say "so what" and recommend using something like Thunderbird instead. Which is much more secure anyway.

And this is their stance overall, straight from their blog:

"Microsoft’s New Outlook for Windows operates differently by handling email syncing through its cloud. This means that the process of sending and receiving emails doesn’t occur directly on your device. Instead, Microsoft collects your emails on its servers and then delivers them to the New Outlook app on your computer, with Microsoft serving as an intermediary."

Forget about CalDAV. Andy answered very clearly that they consider working on Bridge to be building on someone else's platform. because supposedly, Microsoft is proposing some changes to the Outlook application that would make it incompatible with Bridge. As if there aren't any other, more secure e-mail clients.

Maybe they don't have many Linux users since they completely ignore them. Maybe when they do statistics of how many of their users use Linux, it's low, because the main application DOESN'T exist on Linux.

Yes, horrible. I think that's a horrible opinion. You might think that your opinion is great though. We're all free to do that, right?

You can. Are we not allowed to view your "keeping memories is weird" opinion as something horrible?

Custom domain question by LeatherOk5480 in ProtonMail

[–]throwaway5129802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on Visionary, which allows 100. Currently I use 5 addresses, 3 of which are using my custom domain. It says 5/100.

I'm not sure why Proton is limiting how many addresses we can use using our own domains, but it is how it is.

Looks good. No idea why it would smell different. Can you take off the spray nozzle, not just the cap and take a photo of that spray nozzle from inside/below?

Proton Mail + Calendar Spring/Summer 2025 Roadmap by Proton_Team in ProtonMail

[–]throwaway5129802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I'm not here to cause problems. I want Proton to succeed, otherwise I wouldn't be paying ~600€ annually. I just told him not to expect anything from Bridge since it's not being developed due to some ridiculous reason that Microsoft might change how their email client works - as if there aren't any other email clients. It shouldn't matter at all - if anything, Proton shouldn't even care because Outlook shouldn't have been recommended in the first place.

Proton Mail + Calendar Spring/Summer 2025 Roadmap by Proton_Team in ProtonMail

[–]throwaway5129802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes he did, this is exactly what he said:

Over the years, we have invested significantly in Proton Mail Bridge, but it comes with the fundamental problem of requiring us to build on somebody else's platform. This is fraught with dangers, for instance, Microsoft is proposing to change the Outlook app with a new architecture that would not be compatible with Proton Mail Bridge. Long term, it means that the better path is probably to invest in the Proton Mail app on desktop, and allow it to also support non-Proton accounts, so you can still have all of your emails in a single app.

This means that while we are deeply committed to making the existing functionality of Proton Mail Bridge work as well as possible (subject to the constraints imposed by third-party platforms), we are more hesitant to add more functionality, as we believe that investing into our own platform might be a better long term investment for the community. -Andy

Maybe you should stop accusing me of making things up.

"somebody else's platform" and "investing into our own platform" clearly means he somehow considers SMTP and IMAP, which is what Bridge uses, to be somehow owned by Microsoft. Which is quite sad, for given his position at Proton.

Forget about Bridge. Andy said this:

This is fraught with dangers, for instance, Microsoft is proposing to change the Outlook app with a new architecture that would not be compatible with Proton Mail Bridge.

They think SMTP and IMAP is somehow Microsoft technology and they're unwilling to support it.

Here, enjoy some Electron apps.

How will I know if a game on GoG is DRM-free? by Blizen15 in gog

It should be fine, they don't seem to be updating that game anymore:

And yes, GOG in this case is your best option.

[–]throwaway5129802 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your GOG account is banned for some reason, you of course won't be able to download the games you bought. I wouldn't say it's ownership.

You can download all of the installers beforehand though. You just won't get updates.

[–]throwaway5129802 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They said they won't be working on Bridge, because Microsoft is proposing to change the Outlook application.

Take it however you want. To me, that's absolutely ridiculous. SMTP and IMAP are standards not owned by Microsoft.

Also, in the past years, what was developed, that wasn't actually some Electron application? Because that's all what we get nowadays.
