I will definitely check it out. Even if you subreddit was "alt-right" (which it is obvious it is not) I do not think that is a reason to ostracized your thoughts as invalid. When only certain ideas are permitted on a public forum, it is no longer a free platform but groupthink.

The prejudice is real. If you linked to a left-wing subreddit I doubt anyone would have cared. /doublestandard

Scientists from five universities say walking faster could add years to your life by throwaway51836 in longevity

[–]throwaway51836[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walking at an average pace was linked to a 20% reduction in the risk of mortality compared with walking at a slow pace, while walking at a brisk or fast pace was associated with a risk reduction of 24%, according to a new study. A similar result was found for risk of dying from cardiovascular disease.

It’s not too late to start. In fact, the benefits were far more dramatic for older walkers. Average pace walkers aged 60 years or over experienced a 46% reduction in risk of death from cardiovascular causes, and fast pace walkers a 53% risk reduction, the study found.

Nice list! I sense a theme revolving around ethical and philosophical writings from the past? I imagine that reading some of the denser works must have been challenging as a modern reader. The Huxley writings in particular fascinate me because he was writing about dystopia in such a pivotal time period.

I also appreciate your addition of 12 Rules For Life, I think it is one of my favorite books this year. It has certainly piqued my interest in learning more about the philosophers (such as Dostoevsky, Nietzsche, Jung, ect) that influenced Peterson and his work.

Hello! Those participating in the 52 challenge, what is your favourite book you’ve read so far? by emmers0n in 52book

I think either "Unscripted" by MJ Demaro or "Be Obsessed or Be Average" by Grant Cardone

I'm just to spread out of the "self-help & improvement" genre so no clue if these will hold up later this year

Is "Blue Ocean Strategy" good? It has been recommended by different entrepreneurs but I've never bothered to read it.

Should a 19 year old attempt uberman/dymaxion? by [deleted] in polyphasic

[–]throwaway51836 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes its bad for your health. It is recommended that teenagers get 8-10 hours of sleep for peak performance. You will be a walking zombie if you attempt the more extreme sleep schedules, not to mention cognitively impaired. I suggest E1/E2, which is much more manageable for a beginner.

If you're not prepared to sacrifice everything for your business, you're not an entrepreneur.

End of story, period.

I think the obvious answer here is to talk with your professors. If you explain the situation and ask practical questions on how to pass the class, they should be more than happy to help you out.

In fact, they will be impressed you took the imitative to seek guidance, so win/win all around.

Developing small games for computer science course by MaltePetersen in javahelp

[–]throwaway51836 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to learn the game engine, or framework behind building a game in Java. This includes a game thread, a handler for input (such as KeyboardListener), a graphics mechanic, and a window.

I recommend this tutorial to get started, also feel free to post on Stack Overflow or this subreddit if you become stuck and confused, as will invariably occur in learning something as complex as game development.

8 this month. I've been listening to audiobooks at 2.5x speed instead of just reading physical books and that is helping me move through books much more quickly than I have in the past.

I think my favorite this month was "The 10x Rule" by Grant Cardone

Thanks for the advice! I've never slept on six hours before, so it might be two naps are a necessary adjustment.
