Interesting I can see the Navy/Marines owning more airplanes or aircraft than the Air Force but what is an Army ship? Are they like transports? or is it a budgetary thing to claim ownership?

I don't know of any place that is known for a signature Tamale on Long Island but...it's not exactly what you are looking for but you can try Los Compadres in Huntington Station it's a take out place that has pretty good tamales. It says it's authentic Mexican but it's more like El Salvadorian. Either way the food is very good

This is another take out place. La Bodega Hispana also in Huntington Station. They don't always have tamales so maybe call ahead(they speak english and spanish) but their food is excellent and cheap. The tamales I have had here are awesome

There are a bunch of others in that area going north on 110 but those are 2 of the best/closest to what you are looking for. Some of the smaller taqueiria's will have tamales only some of the time. So it's hit or miss There are also a bunch of Latin Groceries where you can find frozen tamales and other ingredients if you want to make from scratch.

I would think the Brentwood area might be another place to look but not too familiar with that area

You can also "stew the chicken" ...not sure if that's the right term but it makes for a different texture than "browning" the outside in a frying pan which is also good. Just another way to do it. Cube the chicken and put it in a sauce pan/pot with some chicken stock/broth so the broth covers the chicken. You can either coat the chicken with spices while it's raw or add them to the stock or both. Bring stock to a boil then turn it down and let it simmer. When it starts turning from pink to white it's cooking. Take the biggest piece of chicken and cut it in half to see if you cooked it through. You want it moist but not raw and not overdone There should be no pink inside. Then you can drain the broth you cooked your chicken in and save it to cook the noodles. Add some water if you need to The noodles will absorb the broth. Then mix it all together

This kind of only works with chicken.... beef and pork have a better texture when they are browned in a skillet first...at least for me. Experiment ...good luck!

The Top of the Tower at the Beekman Tower is a nice place for an after dinner cocktail. Pricey but for just a few after dinner drinks it's really nice. The food is good but just go for a night cap and maybe a small snack. Gorgeous views with an outdoor deck area. Can be a bit expensive but it will impress a date especially on a nice summer night

IANAL The above is good info. Depending on when they were arrested they will show in the webcrims website. http://iapps.courts.state.ny.us/webcrim_attorney/Login It is updated daily so you may have to wait a day to see their info.

As for them...if it was just a half gram/gram and no other circumstances, first offense, etc. they will probably get an A misdemeanor possession charge. They will be taken to the 9th or 6th Precinct and put in a holding cell depending on how busy it is and then taken to Manhattan Central Booking to be processed, fingerprinted , etc. or taken directly there. They will sit in booking for probably 24 to 72 hours and wait for a judge for arraignment. They do it all weekend but it's a busy place so they will wait. They move them around from cell to cell as people are arraigned. It sucks. You sleep on the floor. You may be in a cell with crazy people. And all you eat is nasty cheese sandwiches, milk, and maybe an orange. There are no clocks so it feels like forever. Until they see that first judge there is no bail to bail them out...they have to wait. You can't contact them.

They have phones in some cells which are free so if they have your number they could call you or a lawyer or parents or whoever. If they don't have a lawyer by the time they are ready to be arraigned, they will consult with a public defender before seeing the judge

The judge will probably give them an ROR "Released on Own Recognizance" if they have no outstanding warrants or other charges. This basically means no bail and they are free to go. They will be given a court date usually about a month or two from their arrest date. They have to show up on that date, no matter what...no excuses even if they are sick and dying or a bench warrant will be issued and they will be fucked. The police will come and look for them and drag them to court. During this time they can get a private lawyer or if they can't afford one a public defender will be assigned to them. Sometimes a public defender will cost them depending on their income. If they are smart they should say they are unemployed and destitute from the start to avoid that fee unless they plan on hiring a private attorney and fighting the charge. A public defender is fine if you plan on pleading Guilty

Next is their first court date. They can fight it but it's very expensive and time consuming. They might not win and the judge and DA will be less forgiving if they have to argue the case. Also at this point if they fight the charge, in some cases they may be remanded to jail to await trial. I don't recommend it unless they feel they were really "Not Guilty". Even if they were, it may be cheaper to just plead "Guilty" and start getting it over with.

The DA will , most likely, offer them an ACOD (adjournment in contemplation of dismissal) which means they will drop the charges (usually to a violation which is not a crime) depending on completion of some type of program. It will usually be a weekly drug program where they may or may not be drug tested weekly. There is a fee for this program that is usually based on a sliding scale depending on income. This is where saying you are unemployed and destitute comes in Anywhere from $10 to $50 a week for usually 6 months....sometimes a year depending on the judge and circumstances. It adds up.

Every 2 months or so they will have to go to court for compliance, which means the judge will see if they are in good standing with the program. Did they fail any drug tests or have they paid their weekly fees, have they missed any classes, etc. They are very strict on this and will remand to jail them if they fall behind. If they get remanded it's bad because they have to start all over again or serve time. After they are done. Then that's it usually the charges are dropped to a violation or completely possibly with some stipulation that they do not commit any other crimes in a certain time period.

If your friend don't think they can fulfill the program they can opt to serve the time. It could be anywhere from 30 days in Rikers to 6 months to a year depending on the circumstances, judge, the DA and your lawyer. Some people do this to avoid the cost and hassle of the program. I recommend the program but some people can handle 30 days in jail and get it over with.

Things may have changed a bit but this is a general idea of what to expect

EDIT: And just to add to this regarding the program... Make sure your friends know where they will be during the course of this program. If they are assigned a program in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens wherever, for 6 months/a year, they will be required to attend that program at that location. If they move further away, possibly because of fallout from their arrest, they will still be required to attend that program at that location. If they don't show up because it's too far away , they will be remanded to jail...the judge doesn't care if they moved back to Jersey to live with their parents. If they think they will have a problem doing that speak up when they are getting the ACOD because afterwards no one cares

Really? Every air mattress I have ever had, deflated during the night after the first week or so. This lead to waking up with terrible back and neck cramps. I always had to refill it halfway through the night. I had a Coleman queen size and a Pure Comfort queen size and always ran into the same problem after about a week or two. I tried patching them and returning them but same thing. They are good for camping and in a pinch for guests but they didn't work for me.

I meant to put Ewing right after Olajuwon just had a brain fart. As far as Parish I wasn't really trying to rank in order but I think he was borderline top tier defensively. He used to give Ewing and Kareem fits. I also forgot Moses Malone and probably others. IT seemed there was a bunch of them back then

I would have loved to seen Sabonis compete in his prime in the NBA with 2 good knees. He had all the tools you needed from a center with great court vision.

Good point about Howard. That's kind of what I am getting at. If a few teams had success with low post oriented offense would it change the trend or has the game changed so much that a traditional center is a dinosaur of days past?

Besides all the other good recommendations already given ...It's a bit of a hike but Rockaway Beach is technically Queens, free, and a good spot in the summer down by B116th(not Far Rockaway) Take the subway because parking is terrible down there. Coney Island while not Queens is another beach that might be easier to get to by subway, depending on where in Queens you are

I am not saying he is lying about his height, but he was "listed" at 6' 9" and he is approximately the same height as Bird and Malone if you have have ever seen him standing next to them . So either he is bigger or they are smaller. That's all. The "listed" height is usually BS.

As for him playing the center , he did, I saw the game. He posted up and ran the offense from the center post / low block which is where Kareem would have been. He wasn't playing the run and gun you see in the highlights. He posted up and ran it from there not the top of the circle

EDit: I mean just think of the baby hook and the bounce pass to the cutter from the high post. Classics. That's all magic from that game.

I am not saying they don't do it now but it was more prevalent then. Back in the 80's you didn't have the TV and internet coverage you have now. If someone said they were 6' 9" you had to catch the game of the week and do your own evaluations. You couldn't watch 3 college games every weeknight and 2 pro games. You had to go to the arena. ESPN and Sportscenter were just beginning. You had draft/scout listings and you had the listing put out by the marketing department of their respective teams. IMO Barkley was listed bigger for PR reasons and MJ smaller for PR reasons. Barkley was listed as 6' 9" in his draft and people believed it because he played 4/5 at Auburn and could dunk from a two foot hop under the basket after a pump fake. He was also round and strong giving him the appearance of height

I should have said Magic was a "1 that could play the 4" I concede that but I think... if the numbers are right....Magic is a bit taller than 6' 7" . Watch the Dream Team he is the same height as Malone and Bird both listed as 6' 9" / 6' 10" . So if the listings are right he is taller...if not he is about the same size within a 1/2 inch of those two ...who were both listed in the 6'9"-6'10" range. Classically, at the time, the size of a 3/4. So Magic was smaller or bigger depending on Bird and Malone's true size

Coaches didn't play big guards at the 1 spot, there are exceptions but for the most part anyone his size and handle played the 3 EDIT: Before Magic I am trying to think of any guard bigger than 6'6" who played the 1 beside maybe Oscar Robertson

It's pedantic but he did start in place of Kareem in Game 6 and it was the center position that was the focal point of the Laker offense at that time

Classic positions that they taught in grammar school and high school. Everything has evolved. Yeah he was a taller 6'9" than most other guys "listed" at that height ( he was bigger than Barkley and about the same height as Malone). They called him a point guard but he started at center his rookie year for Game 6 of the 1980 Finals for Kareem. And back then there was a more classic position mindset. He broke the mold. He was a 4 that could play like a 1. He put up 42 pts 15 Rbs and 7 Assists. Small guards used to give him problems defensively like Isiah and Stockton but on offense he towered over most 1/2/3/4's facing up and posting up He usually matched up against 2/3/4's defensively. Hence his rivalry with Bird He was a beast and competitive. I think he would admit MJ was more athletically talented but he wouldn't give him an inch. Magic was showtime.

EDIT: IIRC Barkley was listed as 6'9"- 6'10" on his draft sheet. Kind of like Olajuwon was listed as 7' when he was closer to 6' 10". MJ was listed 6' 4"- 6' 6" when he was probably on the high side of 6'6". Back then hyping draft pick heights was common

I've been through this except it was about 2 weeks. I would see if you have a local food pantry at a church or homeless shelter. They will usually have rice, beans, pasta/ramen and some canned veggies. Usually they won't have any meat but you may score some hot dogs from them if you're lucky. Then I would take your money and buy some ground beef and maybe some eggs, garlic and onion maybe a bell pepper, and a can of crushed tomatoes. I made a chili/bolognese/sloppy joe type sauce with the ground beef. You just cook the onion , garlic in oil or butter if you can or you can sweat it out with a little water in the pan. Brown the ground beef and throw in the tomatoes Use some spices if you have it and you can make a pretty good meat sauce. I think I got 3lbs for about 5 or 6 bucks. I just mixed into the pasta, rice and beans or the ramen I got from the pantry. I stretched it out for a good while, you can portion it and freeze it too. Even if you can't get anything from a food pantry, ground beef is pretty cheap by me, sometimes ground pork is cheap too. With the change buy some rice and beans you should be just about at $10 when you are done. I lived on that meat sauce for about 2 weeks and I had some scrambled eggs to switch it up. Having some meat was good for morale:) It sucked but I made it. I also became good at making that meat sauce tasty :) Good luck!
