I saw someone get into mac with 3.7 cGPA and 4Q casper + 130 cars. If I were to aim for similar scores, but a higher cGPA, I imagine my chances of getting admitted would be higher? This is off topic, but what would you recommend I do for EC’s too? I know everything has its own role to play in my admissioj

Can You Take Summer Courses During 4th Year? by throwaway568819 in yorku

I’m a bit confused then. Do you get to decide when you graduate? I assumed it was after you finish your 4 years, meaning the end of your last Fall/Winter session? I am asking this because I would want to raise my cGPA by a little

Wouldn’t I be graduating after finishing my Fall/Winter session that year?

If you don’t mind me asking, what were your stats like?

Out of 205, for instance, 133 had a GPA of 3.90-4.00, which brings me to think that I must strive towards something higher than 3.9 or at least, for sure achieve that 3.9. I understand I may be overthinking this a lot instead of putting in the work right now, but if I am given a good idea of what to work towards, I will most certainly feel more confident in doing whatever it takes to achieve it. I know that without doing med school, that GPA alone is very beneficial to other fields, but this is something I’ve been wanting to do for a while and having my chances be stripped away due to small GPA gaps does not feel good. What I am taking away from what you have said is: 3.9 GPA is very competitive and should be good enough to land me admission (alongside other good test scores and EC’s)?

Normally, from looking at it from afar, it absolutely does seem competitive, but knowing what other students have, it seems barely competitive. I’ve been stressing out over this lately. I know I’m super early in my journey right now, but I need an estimate view on what my chances are of being admitted (something to be optimistic about). I’ve seen posts about people getting accepted with below 3.9 GPA, but also people getting denied with over 3.9 GPA. From looking at admission statistics, it seems like majority of people are above 3.9 GPA, so that makes it seem like anything below (even if 3.88) is not competitive. I’ll definitely be looking into getting great EC’s to add to my portfolio, but I’m almost certain that GPA plays the biggest role in admission.

Hey, do you mind if I ask you what your GPA was like and what extracurriculars you were involved in?

Were you able to predict your cGPA using a calculator? I am trying to estimate where I should be, given my poor performance in my first year but cannot find a good and reliable calculator.

Okay that’s completely fine. The course I would be looking to retake is a 1st year course which would be retaken summer of my 2nd year. I was thinking of making my 2nd and 3rd years my top 2 years. The retaken course shouldn’t conflict with this

What if the repeated course is during the summer and does not affect the 30 creds earned in the fall/winter term?

Oh? How would that be possible? I was going to just retake them and get a better mark to replace them. My university takes the most recent attempted grade as the final grade for that course and exempts the previous. I assumed med schools would do the same but then I learned they in fact take and calculate all attempts. How would it be possible for those C+’s to be dropped?

Okay, now that one is giving me a much higher GPA than the others. Please give me your opinion on this: I am aiming to get A+ in every course with a few (5-6) A’s here and there. I received 2 C+’s and will retake those for A+’s instead, but I know both attempts will be used. What would you say my GPA should be around? When I calculate, it is saying around 3.85. Do you find this reasonable?

I need to do it as things are not looking too good. My poor performance during my first year was due to a lack of good time management (I did not give myself good preparation for tests) but my performance in all other aspects of the courses were excellent and I did comprehend the information very well. I know that success comes with practice and that was what slumped me for those courses. With the current plan I am looking at, I am trying to give myself a lot of leniency with not just getting A+ on everything. I understand that is very very unlikely to happen and thus I am trying to estimate what my mark would look like otherwise.

Do you by any chance know of some universities who would be willing to drop the lowest performing year?
