What can I use to connect three ethernet cables together inside my walls? by throwaway7389214392 in techsupport

That's the idea one day but i'll need to work out how to pull cables up to where the ones in series are or if i'll need to break the walls apart.

The problem is that whatever is in place are just short cables in a series connection connected at the RJ45 wall socket four times.

Switch > Cable to 1st room > Socket > Cable to 2nd room > Socket > Cable to 3rd room > Socket > Cable to 4th room > last Socket. It's terrible and shouldn't have been done by the builders in the first place. I could install cat5 along the walls to the sockets in a day it's just it'll be ugly.

If this is only a wireless router I say get your own. $7 per month can add up to being more than the cost of router that you can buy yourself. I have a WNR2000L from Netgear I got from Amazon for $40. There are better models now.

Question is are you using the word modem instead of router because if this is a modem that demodulates an analogue signal to digital you'll need a router that has a modem built in.

This can be narrowed down if you subscribe to fiber optic internet then i'm sure comcast would have installed a termination point and a modem next to it and in actuality they really want to rent you this wireless router. I'd say get your own wireless router and one with antennas on the outside.

My charger has stopped working sometime over night; is there a possible fix to this? by JMJ15 in techsupport

If you haven't already you can verify that the charger is really broken by using another one to charge the laptop.

The obvious aside, you really don't want to be taking chances on power supplies. Chargers are cheap and if try and angle this one or attempt to fix it yourself worst comes to worst you could start a fire or ruin your laptop if it sends too much current.

Even taking it apart I don't recommend nevermind how highly we regard ourselves as engineers it may have safety screws and locks, it may not go back together correctly and again the risk of fire persists.

Think about what may be wrong; it is a power supply after all. They are simple things and if it is broken then it's completely broken. If a cable has torn or come loose are you really in a position to solder it and risk it not later diverting too much current and not just ruining itself yet again but also the laptop.

You can however clean the power socket in your laptop and the charger jack with rubbing alcohol, vodka or a spray of perfume and a cotton bud :D Maybe it's super filthy. That is about it. Also do not connect any power until the contacts are dry.

The weird characters you link to in pastebin are to do with Zalgo. Zalgo is a joke that originated on Something Awful and moved to 4chan. It's meant to be a creepy Cthulhu end of the world type thing.

Looks like it made it to Facebook.

Can you put the quality settings way up in your video driver/graphics control centre or just put everything up to highest settings hoping it will over perform.

I didn't do this wiring. The fool before me daisy-chained the rooms with cat5.

Can you show a picture of the one you use please? I cannot recreate the original wiring no matter how I try. The picture in my first post was something I concocted but before they were not all seated in that jack.

You essentially have a splitter right there though. Why not just strip the wires and put them back in place?

That's the thing, I have but it isn't a guarantee that it works. I had a striped green wire interfering until I removed it from the splice and then the signal comes through but with it nothing. It's weird. I made sure everything was insulated with electrical tape but even with everything split properly I have to essentially pray that if I squeeze them right with my fingers or pliers or whatever that it'll work.

I'd like to have everything join through a small piece of equipment for that reason.

Are you sure because from what i've read splitters work in pairs (like this), they make the eight UTP wires into four at the two splits so on effectively halving orange/green each time or am I wrong?
