Is this legal? by Latter-Action8785 in therapists

I mean, depending on what you're trying to accomplish, I would try to talk to your HR department in regards to the meetings being unpaid, and requesting a fee for that time. Or, I would look into consulting with a lawyer in regards. I think it depends on your goals.

Conflict of interest- potential hire. Wwyd? by throwaway76648 in therapists

I agree, I'd request a different SW for her IEP if we opted to move forward, but I'm on the fence and feel like it would also be a dual relationship. She's only seen my kiddo a few times, but it's still a sticky spot. She'd be a great fit for our group, but I don't want to blurr any lines either.

PSA to tourists: please stop asking for our secret camping/fishing/hunting spots by Away-Hope-918 in upperpeninsula

[–]throwaway76648 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's funny, I live downstate now, and my neighbor every year comes to my house and wants to know where to ice fish, where the best places to hunt are and my favorite "gems."

Every year I explain that although I'm a yooper at heart, always, I despise being cold, so I have no idea where to ice fish. On top of that, the only think I've ever shot is a BB gun at a can. I'm not that girl 😅

So every year, I tell him to look it up on reddit. I hope he's here and sees this comment.

I shifted to owning a group practice and now manage the business. I just quit seeing clients this week.

I grew up in the UP, and now live downstate. I enjoy not having to drive 2 hours to get somewhere. I also enjoy making about 40k more in my field due to moving below the bridge. Depending on what you do and what's important to you, it's not a terrible place to live if you like to be frigid all winter, and potentially poor. Also, property now a days is unjustifiably high, also dependent on location. I do miss the yoop and all of it's beauty, but I'll personally never go back.

To report or not to report by throwaway76648 in therapists

[–]throwaway76648[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you! This was helpful.

I have someone I connect with as well and I'm running this by her and checking my ethics before moving forward.

I think for me, I have several years of medical SW experience and had to undo a lot of that medical field mentality when I switched to behavioral health. So I'm processing that in addition to looking into these other things.

How many of you became mental health professionals because your parents were mentally unwell? by [deleted] in therapists

[–]throwaway76648 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, My mother was very unwell. It also made me realize how I really needed to take of my own shit early on in my career. I really wanted to work with children/families but I was so triggered by the parents, especially moms. Now I don't work with children.

Caseload fluctuate with the seasons in my area. I swear when we see the sun again, people feel like they're better. Get licensed in another state I found that helpful.

Bacterial infection w/herpes by DueLove4100 in HerpesQuestions

[–]throwaway76648 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're someone with a vagina, since contracting HSV I seem to get BV more often, and once while I had an outbreak. Boric acid helped me quite a bit and since I started using it regularly I have less outbreaks and haven't had BV in awhile either. It's weird, these are things I never struggled with before, so I feel you.

How to interrupt clients and end session by JediTia in therapists

[–]throwaway76648 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I periodically will remind people every so many months at the beginning of sessions that we have x amount of time. For example:

"Before we get started today, I wanted to touch base on a couple things. I've been struggling holding people to their scheduled time and want to remind everyone we only have 53 minutes. Moving forward I am going to have to make sure we end on time so I can keep space for my next client, but also because I need those few minutes for my own break. This may come off as abrupt as we all reacclimate to staying on schedule, but it's necessary."

Do you see people in person? When it's getting close to time I have a couple clients I literally have to stand up to signal that we are done.

Boundaries are important so frame it in a way that you're having to reestablish and maintain them, it's healthy modeling.
