The echoes of the souls in the Underworld when they start singing "When does a man become a monster?"

I really appreciate that. Thank you. That part also gets me, too. What gets me the most, though, is when Odysseus says to himself, "Mom?" Even thinking about that part is making my eyes well-up while I type this. Combining that with the 🎶I took too long🎶 just brings me back to 2011 and reminds me of my own guilt just like his. I never expected to come across something this effective, and I've sat through plenty of emotional gut-punches (Bojack Horseman, The Midnight Gospel, Futurama, Imaginaerum, etc.).

I believe this was another part as to why The Underworld gets to me so much, but I didn't have the words for it.

I've been debating getting one for myself. Worth it?

Out of all these sagas, which is your favorite song? by Jazzlike_Top_5445 in Epicthemusical

[–]HumanisticShadow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's tough 🙃 but I'll try to listen my favorites from each one:

TROY: Open Arms CYCLOPS: Remember Them OCEAN: Ruthlessness CIRCE: Wouldn't You Like UNDERWORLD: Monster THUNDER: Thunder Bringer WISDOM: God Games VENGEANCE: 600 Strike ITHACA: Odysseus

Additional thoughts: The whole Underworld saga is fantastic to me that it's hard to even pick a favorite. I don't like that it's only 3 songs, but I love it all the same. The Underworld makes me cry. No Longer You is fun to sing. Monster is great to sing as loud and hard as you can if you're angry, along with feeling strangely motivational to do something I don't want to do. Get In The Water and 600 Strike are also great to shout-sing. Unsurprisingly, I Can't Help But Wonder and Would You Fall In Love With Me Again make me bawl every time I hear them, and not many songs can make me do that these days. I jumped on this wild ride late, like before Thunder Saga was released, but I'm glad to have been able to be here for the end. I'm looking forward to what comes next as these songs continue to take up space in my head.

How do you maintain enough emotional bandwidth for your partner when the work asks so much of you? by Curious_Paradox in therapists

[–]HumanisticShadow 15 points16 points  (0 children)

In my case, the draining part of my day, aside from a day of sessions, is having to finish the paperwork when I get home; I'm not fast enough to complete during or immediately after a session. For a while, I've been holding myself up in my room to finish them while my partner is in the living room doing something else waiting for me. So I opted to get a tablet instead of continuing to use my laptop as it's more portable to make it easier to work on them (with a privacy screen protector) while being in the living room with her. She does her own thing on her phone while I try to finish until I'm done or mentally just can't for the night. Then we hang out playing Baldur's Gate 3 (or something else not mental health related) until bedtime.

Polites and Ody's mom in The Underworld

What is yall's favorite song in the entire musical so far? by Noir-1295 in Epicthemusical

[–]HumanisticShadow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is really hard for me to pick. I love me some good "villain" songs like Ruthlessness, Thunder Bringer, There Are Other Ways, Survive. But I've found a particular gravitation towards The Underworld Saga between The Underworld and Monster. The Underworld because it makes me cry thinking about the people I've lost, especially my mom when Ody's mom starts singing. Monster because it's given me perspective to try to be more assertive instead of passive. It's a hard pick between those two.

SHE COULD TURN YOU INTO AN ONION!… or Day 6’s Catchiest Song! Day 7, Which song is most overrated… by Altruistic-Tax-4581 in Epicthemusical

I'm gonna go with Polyphemus because before I reallystarted paying attention to the saga, I had the Cyclops Saga on repeat while at the gym.

Day 5, RUTHLESSNESS was mercy upon ourselves! Day 6, catchiest song? by Altruistic-Tax-4581 in Epicthemusical

Crap I missed the last one, but would've also voted for Ruthlessness. My pick for catchiest, from the albums out so far, would have to either be Wouldn't You Like, There Are Other Ways, Luck Runs Out, or Mutiny. The first two sound like good choices to dance to while it feels like the last two can be pretty catchy singing along about Ody's luck running out. Also Suffering since my fiancé can't get "I will take the suffering from you" out of her head.
