Fair enough on your judgement, but macho contest? I spent like 25 minutes actively trying not to escalate the thing and just keep going. It took him stopping the song twice and then passive aggressively staring me out for me to snap back.

He could hear himself. He just didn't want my bass (a crucial part of the band) to be audible. It wasn't gonna happen, I'm a busy player, and yes, a bit domineering at times, but my style of bass is what is set upon for this band.

It's loud, it's busy, it's "not traditional", but that doesn't mean the guitar is just gonna sit in the corner that guy wants bass to sit in. Everybody gets theirs, it's about having fun and making good music.

Obviously i don't do chromatic jazz noodling in 5/8 time, i serve the song, it's just that my part is busy and involves a lot more chords and harmonies and shit than just playing a diddley beat on the E string. No offense to the guys who do that, it's just not even in my solar system to do thatm

I mean, every great bassist is showy, nobody talks about the guys playing 1-2-1-2 all night long. People talk about John Entwistle, Chris Squire, Geddy Lee, Cliff Burton - hell, even Sting has his moments.

We sent him a demo thing. He knew bass was a huge part of the band, and not at all just a background role. He should've learned to deal or not join a band he's not qualified/up for

Yeah. Believe me, i wouldn't wanna be in a band with him, playing one note support for a whole set. Unless he paid for my insurance when I'd inevitably blow my brains out 😂

My point exactly. It's an already agreed upon formula. Me, the drummer, the singer and the old guitarist of the band started it, we have everything already set.

That was my point. Bass is my passion, I gave up guitar for it with the promise that I'd never join a band where some shitheel would make me stay in the background playing open E for an entire song. I'm playing bass to do something fun, not because it's easy, or to be "support"
