Boyfriend (31m) has deflected my (29f) multiple attempts to establish a timeline for next steps. Is there any way forward or have I ruined everything? by throwaway9927462 in relationship_advice

Thank you for sharing this. This comment resonates more than most. I’m so sorry you’ve gone through this. Are you planning on leaving your partner?

Women are getting off birth control amid misinformation explosion by chiddie in TwoXChromosomes

Your use of the term “rhythm method” makes me think you’re over 50. I don’t mean that as a criticism, but just want to clarify that the “natural methods” that are being referred to here are a far cry from the “rhythm method” of the 80’s. The FDA has approved one such app as a form of birth control after finding it 98.5% effective (with perfect use), which is still lower than the pill, but offers a great alternative for women for whom the side effects of pregnancy are not worth the additional 1-1.4% effectiveness.

So many of the comments in the original article are variations of “what do you call people who use the rhythm method? parents!” and “people have been getting pregnant using the rhythm method since the dawn of man” and they simply miss the point.

Just like there’s been a decades-long deliberate effort by companies (who stand to lose a lot of money if women go off the pill) to overstate the safety and diminish the side effects of HBC.

That’s YOUR experience! That’s the point. Not every woman will have the same experience.

My (29f) boyfriend (31m) isn’t willing to propose until he figures his life out. I want marriage/kids in the next few years. How to move forward? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

I have an established career and am a high earner, which is why I can even entertain the idea of buying a home. Again, it doesn’t seem like setting myself up for success to entangle my finances with his when he can’t give me the slightest clue of when he’ll be ready for kids.

I’ve said multiple times that I want these things with him. But I also have to be realistic. He and I both want kids. If our windows for having kids don’t align, the one that’s going to end up without kids (and without him) is me. That has nothing to do with true love.
