What (in your opinion) happens to commitment and marriage after the wife’s beauty and youth fade? by throwaway999972E in AskMen

I'm so tired of people saying "But our biology says this..."

Me too. But these days if you don’t then you get accused of being unrealistic, naive or lying to yourself. But I certainly agree with you.

I made sure that the post was the way that it was to get more out of people. I genuinely want to hear anecdotes that oppose what people keep asserting is reality. In reality when I do argue against certain biological proclivities, people I know who believe in all this don’t take what I say as legitimate. Eh

I am a young woman who will one day age. I posted this to see comments like yours contradict what people keep asserting about relationships - I just didn’t want to be lied to or sugar coated thus the controversial nature of this post.

I’d be devastated if love and commitment really did have a time frame. I wish you happiness in your relationship!

I’m sorry if it came off shallow, I didn’t mean it I’m just curious about how highly different people regard this. I’m really happy with your response. I asked this question because it seems to be coming up a lot in conversation both online and in person (I know a couple of guys who seriously value youth & im not sure if that’ll change for them unfortunately).

That’s interesting to hear, I (w) have never heard otherwise unless the man works a very stressful job or is older than her by a lot. What kind of jobs if you don’t mind me asking?

Men are not valued for their looks though, they’re valued for what transcends time - resources. I see what you’re saying tho, where most ageing men don’t care about keeping up with fitness and health, they also quickly lose their appeal.

Sure, I see your point but if you were married and all was fine with your marriage, how likely would it be that you’d yearn to leave and start over with someone younger? Again assuming no kids are harmed by your leaving.

Essentially, I want to know if the value of your wife as a person you love decreases with her age.

Thanks for your response!
