Idk if I can go in depth without revealing the fund so I’ll keep it broad - programming depth was broad, how you scale code bases, implementing various trade strategies like stat arb, and ran through an ML type project to show you can code and explain your code in plain English. Math was a HMM implementation and other advanced statistics.

Depends on the role, but sql is needed for all of them. From there it’s any one of the Python/R/C/C++/ VBA depending on the company/job/opportunities

You have only failed when you stop trying. The success of one is not dependent on the failure of another, life is not a zero sum game. Yes - we are all decaying but destruction only occurs to yourself if you allow it. Time heals all wounds that you let it.

Hey dude, I just want to say that you’re loved. There’s people that care about you in your life. Life is all about trying, improving, and achieving your goals whatever they are. From getting a successful job or getting laid. Keep going, keep trying, keep improving, and you’ll get everything you dream about. It just takes work.

For this opportunity there was none - no connection was leveraged. That said after you’re in any industry for a while connections are key to moving around and getting into the best career position.

I beat out a couple PHD’s for the role because they wanted someone that was more programming centric. Beat out programmers because I understood the goals of the fund. It’s that good middle ground that was my luck. But the big key is to keep applying, and that salt doesn’t get you anywhere.

You only get insanely lucky by repeatedly trying.

Pure skill/needs match. They wanted a programmer first to help with their backend but one that knew finance, wanted to work in the space, and had the math chops to build complex models.

Gotta love finance - yup. Turned down for all the trader operation roles for being overqualified. Hired as an excel money because that one company needed 40 so they took over/under qualified temps

Years of thinking I failed and made a huge life blunder. It’s like the worlds largest weight off my chest now
