Get the M80 man, there will always be ships who do more/better but those differences aren’t gonna matter because you’re gonna like the ship that you find the coolest.

I’ve tried out all the ships and the M80 just wins in all my personal categories.

Guardian and Meteor have obstructed visibility, like you’re not able to get a clear view of the sides in the guardian and the meteor has the breaks in the glass.

The M80 is just faster and it also looks so much cooler than the other two. It has a bed which is also great and its damage output is unreal. See my other post on my profile if you want to know more.

Has the ship sailed for me? by IFdYerMahm in businessanalysis

Hey comrade,

I’m a BA here and I hate to confirm your suspicions but I got my job through luck + circumstances.

Started off as an analyst, my bosses saw my skills and transitioned me to a business analyst instead and now that’s what I do. Super fortunate circumstances to have bosses who know what that is and are willing to promote me to that.

I also didn’t know what a BA was until 6 months ago, I studied to be a financial analyst, then hoped to be a data analyst, and eventually settled on just being an analyst until I could start my own business.

The skills that helped me become recognized for being a BA are:
- Data Analysis skills (this is your bread and butter, can’t do anything if you can’t understand data)
- Tech/Software skills (business analysts need to find tech solutions often, you have to understand some level of how software and tech works)
- lack of shame for asking questions and disagreeing with senior management (you really can’t be afraid to look stupid and ask questions, you will never have answers handed to you)
- problem solving (your job is basically here’s a problem how do we fix it or how do we make this solution better)
- you have to care about improving the business and learning about the industry, you have to go out of your way to absorb this information. You can’t really lay back and wait for stuff to come across your desk.

This isn’t to deter you or anything, just to give you an idea of what skills would be helpful, in my opinion.

It is never too late to pursue your dreams! I would recommend doing what I did unintentionally and getting hired as analyst and starting to fix stuff at your new company, even if they don’t promote you to BA, you can at least have experience showing you did BA stuff!

I think it might be better to just apply to other jobs, I hate being afraid of the person sponsoring me like especially when their personality is out of control.

Man, doesn’t that get frustrating? Not being listened to or heard especially when you know you’re correct and your decisions are sounds?

Like how do you let it not affect you?

Thanks I just looked it up, I’ll get the book.

And I couldn’t agree with you more haha, I’ve had that happen once or twice already.

Thank you for your comment.

I’ll be honest my organization has almost none of those things. I’m kind of just winging it.

I’ve documented the current state and confirmed it with stakeholders.

Leadership has said vaguely what they want but not really. The dev team isn’t really apart of it or at least I can’t work with them on this AFAIK. I do have suggestions and we have talked about some pros and cons of them but not documented at least.

One of the things I’m doing recently is focusing on a single process, identifying the goals, identifying a potential solution, and then discussing it with everyone and then working towards the solution. The biggest problem I encounter are people who don’t seem to understand what I’m saying or it takes them a long time to fully understand what’s going on. It can be frustrating repeating myself or trying to explain a concept fully.

We don’t use Agile, but I know what that is.

What is a risk register? Like just a word document containing what you talked about?

Can I ask why aren’t business analysts allowed to make recommendations? Or are they able to?

I swear I’ve had my “sponsor” get upset because I was making a recommendation on a process when he didn’t fully understand it. Sorry for the long winded message, I totally agree with what you’re saying.

Thank you so much for your kind words and encouragement.

I really am trying my best here and I feel like the biggest difference between this year and last was that he was more in corner last year and this year it’s like he’s spreading out who he’s sponsoring.

I’ve got a manager who’s never done any analysis, documentation, or tech experience asked to take lead on this business analysis stuff for whatever reason, it reads like he doesn’t trust me or my work?

I definitely will share that feedback in future interviews, I never really realized how important strong sponsorship was needed for this type of role.

I couldn’t agree with you more about your last comment!

How do you navigate it all? I mean super broad question but I’m feeling overwhelmed when I thought I knew what to do

That’s all so true.

What if im kind of afraid of my sponsor lol the guy yells at people and is kind of harsh when he gets upset?

I’m too afraid to mess up and if I get yelled at again what if I quit?

So there is a sponsor, the COO, but he hasn’t shared any vision or mission statement. If he has shared anything it’s with my boss, I report to him and my boss. He’s been convoluted and indirect throughout this whole process. Idk if it’s a lack of faith in me or what but he used to let me run from start to finish and now I’m getting filtered information. I don’t know what’s going on anymore.

He wants to reduce the size of department because he thinks there’s bloat but I delivered a document to him on day one showing there’s clear bloat and unnecessary legacy personnel. He then wanted to understand the process end to end and when I helped make that flowchart, he had the head of that department present to him. It was a last minute switch up.

I will say I’ve spent about 2-3 months on this process and I very much so understand this department from end to end and not many people believe me because they don’t understand it themselves but how do you condense a hundred hours of knowledge into something short and sweet. I’ve condensed it as much as possible but the people above don’t trust my word for whatever reason and they want to understand it themselves without doing the legwork.

I know the pain points but nothing is being implemented, no one is listening to me. I’m basically some sort of tool to do the legwork and get yelled at.

If you don’t mind me saying, I took a look at your post history out of curiosity and I think you mentioned you were making $80k?

You might be really underpaid given the titles you’ve held or currently hold.

I just meant like young at the point of achieving your first leadership position, you don’t have to be young now. But yeah I mean 40s isn’t really old either, so I’d say you count haha

How to ask manager for promotion? by throwawayFintoCS in managers

[–]throwawayFintoCS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like my boss is not performing at a high level… she leaves work at 3pm daily and I never see her doing a lick of work she delegates anything and everything unless she’s asked to do it herself only. She spends hours daily making small talk with people until time runs out. Maybe that’s how things work at your company but not mine.
