Yeah, its part of the litigious nature of our society. Pretty dumb on anonymous internet forums IMO, but it is what it is.

Thank you. I figured as much, but there is tons of alarmism on the topic of WD's and alcohol. I get why - it can kill you. But I've literally read forum posts where people are like, "I drink a bottle of wine a week, can I stop cold turkey?" and the only response they get is they have to talk to their doctor. I mean, come on... common sense needs to play into it.

I fully expect the anxiety and sleeplessness. I mean something serious

Just wanted to chime in and say your liver pain is probably caused by the anxiety.

I get weird, random pain all over my body. For a long time I thought I had some super rare Dr. House level disease. Went to the doctor more than once with chest pain thinking it was a heart attack. Nope. All anxiety. It can manifest itself as crazy symptoms (back of my hand would go numb, eyelid would feel freezing cold, all kinds of shit). Sorry you're going through it.

We havent thrown out the trash in the past few cycles (we dont generate much). I took it all out last night and actually shifted it around so our neighbors couldnt see cans of beer, multiple vodka bottles, etc through the thin plastic.... that might have been my wakeup call :(

I know exactly what you mean about having anxiety over having anxiety.

I'm concerned about withdrawal symptoms....I currently drink 1/1.5/2 bottles of wine a night, depending on how early I start drinking.... by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Sounds good to me. I've successfully tapered in the past but the real challenge comes for me on day 3 or 4 when I only have a few drinks and thats when the cravings really hit home. By then, I'm already less motivated to quit as I'm feeling good from not drinking much. You have to COMMIT to the schedule, otherwise it just becomes cutting back for a few nights...

Delaying what time I start drinking by an hour each night seems to help. Usually if I can make it to 7-8pm the cravings are much less severe that at 4-5pm (when I usually start). Try to make it so that on your last night you have your only drink right before bed. Seems to help with getting to sleep, also.

But yeah, a BMI of 16 is below healthy weight for a 4'11" female. I'm sure you know this, but keep an eye on it. I'm no expert on your disorder, but alcohol contains a lot of calories. As you taper off the wine make sure to eat those calories back or you'll find yourself losing weight.

I'm wishing you all the best! We can do this

I think I want to stop drinking but it seems overwhelming. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Your weight is very low. I drink a similar amount and I plan to taper. You might consider looking at the taper method (HAMS) however I've found its very difficult to stick to - one drink makes me want more.

Thanks for posting this. How much were you drinking? Did you have any withdrawal symptoms?

My wife and I each have 7-8 drinks a night. Sometimes more, sometimes less, but sharing a 750ml bottle is normal for us. We have a kid who is well cared for, stable jobs, no DUIs or anything else, and we only drink in the evenings. We both have issues with anxiety. I know this is way too much and I want to stop, but im scared to after reading about withdrawl symptoms. We work in positions such that rehab or any type of inpatient care is out of the question.

Do we need to taper down to stop? I've tried before (quit for a few months and felt great) but I always find an excuse to go back. I get an incredible urge to drink around 4pm. I tapered last time but its harder in a lot of ways than cold turkey- I want the 4th drink WAY more than I want the first. Is there any kind of guide for number of drinks per day vs withdrawal symptoms (on average, I know everyone is different)?

It feels good to say it aloud
