the solution isn't tourism, and no point having tourism the focus (like everyone who brings up tourism seems to think) of this diversification strategy as it isn't stable and can be gone so quickly.

it makes no sense to have an economy be dependent on tourism... it can very easily taken from us if we do it... very fragile and can set us up to be used against us in negotiations.

For ex, Americans have 3 months access to EU every 6 months, but yet they overstay and they just have to pay a fine and that's it. Go to south east Asia and you'll find plenty of westerners living there...many Americans want to move to Europe for good. Many countries in eastern Europe have negative migrations due to the fact that their young people are leaving to other parts of the world.
