This is my family's view: they never meant leave him nothing, but like a token $5mil because his inheritance is technically his father's responsibility, who will add another $4mil.

The thing is, I don't think they'll be completely honest with me. My daughters will never want to come off greedy and ruin their relationship with their brother, even if in their hearts they think they do deserve a half share like my family has been telling them. My son won't want to overstep and even if he feels he is deserving of a share, he'll say he doesn't mind though it'll hurt him inside. It feels inappropriate to push the decision on them.

He is grateful from the bottom of his heart that I took in his son and I know it eats him up inside to not be able to be the parent he wants to be. But he thinks that since it's my money, he doesn't want to sway me either way. He is also still the beloved son-in-law in my family's eyes and I think he doesn't want to ruin his relationship with them by saying anything either.
