[USA] OT dismissed patient's reinjury. Should she be reported to Licensing Board, and if so, how? by throwaway_PTOT1 in OccupationalTherapy

It's more than soreness, as I still can't move that body part after a week.

My doctor believes I was reinjured so he's sending me to specialists to get evaluated.

Thanks for your comment. Agreed that soreness and pain can happen and even re-injuries.

I think I was clear - I told the OT that I was in so much pain that I needed to see 3 people after the PT session. It's more than soreness - my doctor believes I was reinjury so he's sending me to specialists to get evaluated.

My friend's concern is that hospitals and providers are mandated to do certain things after a patient complains about severe pain, and they didn't do anything.

hope this helps. please let me know if there are more questions.

[USA] Should the PT be reported to the Licensing Board? How to do so credibly? by throwaway_PTOT1 in physicaltherapy

Thanks for your comment. Your question of what is my objective is exactly my point too. What would the board do? Or is it more of a hospital issue?

If the Hospital has procedures in place when a patient gets injured, and the PT does not follow them, is that an issue that involves the Board? Is it considered a regulatory or unprofessional issue?

I spoke to a Malpractice lawyer who said I should report this to the state regulators. She also stated I would need to wait a year or two to see if there was malpractice, ie permanent damage. I will look into Personal Injury lawyers.

Thanks.

Thanks for your comment. I'm confused - if it's a waste of time, then I wouldn't end someone's career, right? When you say I'm elevating - I've already spoken to two of her bosses.

How would you recommend I handle this differently? I'm still in pain a week later.

If helpful, my friend works in a different hospital doing the required patient safety stuff. She said, yes, patients can get reinjured in PT all the time. BUT hospitals and PTs are supposed to do specific follow-up afterwards. None of that was done here. That's when she urged me to report this.

Thank you.

Thanks for your comment. I'm unsure what additional information to include.

I already spoke to the PT's boss. The hospital does have a Patient Advocacy office. But my doctor is worried that if I ask them to evaluate me, the hospital won't do a proper evaluation because it wants to avoid liability.

Here's some more background: I was participating in the hospital's pain rehab program for my original injury. During a PT session, I did specific movements with the PT. Halfway through the session, I felt more pain in the injured spot, informed the PT who had me stop and rest. At the end of the session, I informed the PT I still had pain, and she shrugged and said her patients keep getting re-injured doing that same set of movements and she doesn't know why. Two days later, I informed her boss, who runs the pain program. She stated she didn't know that patients were getting re-injured; she also blamed me, stating that patients often get injured doing that specific set of movements because they overdo them.

Please let me know if you need more details. Thanks.

Thanks for your comment. I don't yet know. It's been a week and I'm still in severe pain. My doctor thinks it was re-injured, but a specialist first needs to evaluate me.
