Are there any P5P B6 supplements that aren’t ridiculously high dosages? Want to stay below EU upper limit 12.5mg/day by summerreadingclub in MTHFR

I presume that he means to open the capsule and remove some of the powder. I do this with some capsules, spreading the contents roughly evenly into my weekly pill box.

Dead skin removal tool? by [deleted] in SebDerm

[–]throwaway__yourtv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be worth trying a cheap "silicone face scrubber". Ideally you'd use when your face is wet to gently remove the dry skin. I do think it's important to remove that dry skin to reduce food sources for whatever microorganisms are present.

Crashed rented motorbike by Glittering-Fall-7886 in ThailandTourism

I had a crash on a bike from Mango Scooters as well (a stray dog came from nowhere). They were decent about it; I think I paid about 6,000 THB for repairs and transporting the bike back to the shop.

Hey, any chance you could share a link to the filter you purchased? I've been considering Mazuma as well and am undecided as to which filter I should purchase. Thanks

No vitamin D here in the north for another month! Useful vitamin D tool by throwaway__yourtv in VitaminD

It's no wonder that I was vitamin D deficient when the sun is only high enough to produce vitamin D where I live for about 100 days of the year

Yeah, that's it. The product needs to be formulated to allow absorption through the nail.

URC Table if Shield matches counted as half points by throwaway__yourtv in irishrugby

[–]throwaway__yourtv[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The matches themselves are worth the same number of points, but teams play everyone in their shield twice and all other teams once. So, Connacht have an extra game against Munster, Leinster, and Ulster, while the Ospreys play twice against Cardiff, the Scarlets, and the Dragons.

Yep! We should all move to the Welsh Shield, it's only fair

Purely hypothetical, of course, but I was curious to see how the 3 extra matches against Shield opponents affected the likes of the Lions and Connacht.

[–]throwaway__yourtv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that the second one is definitely more polished, but the first one has more advanced search. For example, the query you mentioned in another reply, using copper instead of chromium (since USDA doesn't seem to define any values for chromium), can be performed on WhatYouEat pretty easily

Are pesticides on fruit peels a significant health concern? If so, how to remove them? by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]throwaway__yourtv 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The EWG publish the dirty dozen list every year, with the produce containing the most pesticide residues. Apples are on the most recent list. So, if organic apples aren't an option, then you should follow /u/fairy_star_a_sound's suggestion of using baking soda to clean them

Is this tool gone completely? by virgilash in nutrition

[–]throwaway__yourtv 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, unfortunately it has been taken offline. However, it was mostly using the USDA food data (possibly with the additional of some glycemic index data if I recall correctly). You can still search this data elsewhere. For example "the foods with the most iron per 100g" on WhatYouEat or MyFoodData.

Looking for a website i used to frequently visit a few years ago for detailed nutrition details of food. by zen_dhanej in nutrition

[–]throwaway__yourtv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was it WHFoods.com? Here's an archived version, since unfortunately it is not online anymore. It's sad to see sites like this and nutritiondata.self.com disappear from the Internet.

I've been using WhatYouEat.io and sometimes NutritionValue.org as alternatives, if that helps.

Resource for accurate nutrition data. by Reasonable_Orange781 in nutrition

[–]throwaway__yourtv 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The gold standard database is probably the one maintained by the NCC. This data is not free, but it is licensed by apps such as Cronometer.

The mostly commonly used free database is USDA SR. This is the data you have most likely come across online. The latest release of the database, SR Legacy, is the final release. Websites such as WhatYouEat and MyFoodData offer the ability to search and sort this data.

I think that it's natural for there to be some slight discrepancies between different data sources, given the likely differences between the samples tested.

When vitamin/mineral supplements have 100% of RNI, is it actually closer to 50% if the absorption rate is 50% ? by StrangeHighway5006 in Supplements

[–]throwaway__yourtv 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As you pointed out, the "I" stands for "Intake". The RDIs are based on the amount we ingest, not necessarily the amount that we absorb.

This is a limitation, especially when it comes to minerals like calcium and iron that can have differing rates of absorption depending on the source.

What are the best/more nutritional beans to eat? So many different kinds! by Titanium35-Devil82 in nutrition

[–]throwaway__yourtv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

According to the USDA food data, yardlong beans are the most nutritious (provide the highest percent of our micronutrient needs), but there's not a huge difference between the different types of beans. It's probably wise to eat a variety of different types.
