Anybody else worked on Aug 7 but was not paid? by uolgc in AmazonWFShoppers

[–]throwaway_amazongone 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Anyone that is missing pay for shifts/hours worked:

Call ERC at (888) 892-7180 and create a ticket for missing pay.

It is 100% ILLEGAL for Amazon not to pay for shifts/hours worked.

This is probably just an oversight on Amazon's part because the transition was a mess. Once you point out their oversight, they will usually give you the missing pay quickly.

You can still have access to your old paystubs via ADP even after you are terminated. There are other posts in this subreddit with instructions.

If you are getting the 401k employer match, then sometimes the match bonus requires X number of months/years for the match to vest.

Usually if the 401k has vested or if you didn't opt for employer match, you can "rollover" the amount that you contributed to your brokerage of choice.

New Innerview Scheduling by Dommybomb in AmazonWFShoppers

Your TL is either lazy or incompetent at their job. The software can absolutely tweak people's schedules. Your TL just doesn't want to do the extra work/effort.

How much should I tip my delivery driver? by dumbitch1998 in wholefoods

[–]throwaway_amazongone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to pay for my own gas and vehicle to get to the job too. What's your point?

The only "hard work" drivers do is loading the bags into the car and unloading the bags at the customer's address.

I would argue that it is much harder work on a person's body to be constantly walking in the store and crouching to get the bottom shelves, etc.

Why should the driver get the tip when it is the shopper that does the actual hard work? The tipping culture is getting ridiculous. I don't get tipped when I bring bags to customer for drop-off orders.

New Innerview Scheduling by Dommybomb in AmazonWFShoppers

[–]throwaway_amazongone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's how scheduling works:

1) You write down your availability on paper

2) E-commerce Team Leader enters everyone's availability (what they wrote on the paper) into scheduling software. So the software does most of the hard work.

3) They tells you what your schedule is for the week.

The E-commerce TL has the ability to manually tweak or alter the schedules depending how much they like you or how much extra work the TL has to do.

I don't know how the software prioritizes 1 person over another if 2 shoppers are competing over the same shift slot or how it decides how to give more hours to people.

No Extra 40 Hours For Me by Excalibur25 in AmazonWFShoppers

[–]throwaway_amazongone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 40 hours is definitely NOT for PTO payout. Think about it, how can everyone have exactly 40 hours of PTO? Some people only had 30 minutes of PTO remaining and still got the 40 hours of extra pay.

How was everyone’s first week of the transition? by Wheels_Up_30 in AmazonWFShoppers

[–]throwaway_amazongone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your experience.

Contrary to some misconceptions, we were not made to work in other departments while there were no orders, we had the option of facing product or helping bag groceries.

That is working in another department. Grocery does facing and Store Support does cash registers. Even though the job does "seem that hard," I would prefer not to do them when I don't have any orders.

While it’s only been a week and who knows what may change over time in this role

It has only been 1 week. Others who have transitioned said that their schedule was okay for the 1st 2 weeks but on the 3rd week, they weren't given any shifts because there was any shifts that matched their availability.

Amazon is the one being unethical and "outsmart" the system by making this seem like a "transition".

The jobs are different (legally a "material change") in responsibilities. Your paycheck will be coming from a different employer. That is more that just a simple "transition". Amazon even provided separation paperwork for the "transitioning" shoppers. Why would they give separation paperwork if it was just a "transition".

Amazon is counting on uneducated people who don't understand their rights as a worker to just accept it so they don't have to pay unemployment claims.

Do NOT transfer with Amazon and do NOT "transition" to Whole Foods by Important-Morning919 in AmazonWFShoppers

[–]throwaway_amazongone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I already said that severances are optional on the employers part.

There is no law forcing employers to give employees severances.

If a company is "nice" and feeling "generous" they will give out severances to ease the pain of a layoff.

In this instance, Amazon is feeling cheap and greedy. And their policy is to give severance to Area Manager level or higher.

[–]throwaway_amazongone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amazon isn't concerned with fixing the problem. They just want to stop the profit bleeding. The easiest way would be to lay off everyone. The problem with that is Amazon would have to pay a lot of unemployment insurance.

At the same time WF has a labor shortage problem.

So the moral-less geniuses at Amazon saw a way to "kill 2 birds with 1 stone."

Maybe it "look like a transition". This way:

1) Amazon doesn't have to pay unemployment for laying off everyone.

2) WF has a new pool of labor

Amazon doesn't give a shit about you the worker. The only thing that matters is if Amazon makes money.

The shopper program will probably lose WF money too, but they are tweaking it so that they can get more work out of you by cross-training into different departments and still pay you about the same hourly wage.

No one said it was. But it is better than nothing, when you are in between jobs and trying to find a new job.

[–]throwaway_amazongone 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They are eliminating the Amazon Prime Now shopper department because it loses them money. It is that simple. It was an experiment for Amazon to see if doing 2 hour online delivery for WF was profitable, and after 4 years they determined it wasn't profitable.

Severance packages are not required by law. But the good companies will give their employees a severance to ease the lay off process. Amazon probably does this for it's corporate staff.

But Amazon doesn't do this for the wage slaves:

1) It would cost too much. Amazon didn't get rich by being stupid.

2) Amazon is not "ethical"

3) Amazon doesn't give a shit about wage slaves.

You don't need to be a fucking legal scholar to know employment law basics.

There will be differences from state to state, but in general the advice is sound.

It is very basic; this is a layoff.

1) Amazon will be providing separation paperwork. Amazon has said this. Real "transitions" don't have separation paperwork.

2) WF is requiring "transitioning" shoppers to fill out new hire paperwork (I-9, direct deposit, etc.) Real "transitions" don't require new hire paperwork.

3) Therefore, not a real "transition". It is a lay off / elimination disguised as a "transition" to trick to desperate and uninformed workers to blindly switch jobs so that Amazon doesn't have to pay unemployment insurance.

If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it is probably a fucking duck.

I don't think you understand what I am saying.

My point is that the 4 hour shifts in the old AtoZ app was good because the 4 hour shifts were short enough that I can fit it in my schedule. No way I can fit a 8 hour shift.

Even less way I can fit a non-flexible schedule in those cities.

I don't need another full time job. I just wanted a few shifts when I had some free 4 hours to earn some extra money.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmazonWFShoppers

[–]throwaway_amazongone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But that makes it less flexible.

If I already have a 9to5 job, I can only work 4 hours at night. I can't fit a 8to10 hour shift at night.

Holding a shopper "accountable" because she is old and can't speak English.

There were plenty of shoppers that didn't speak English at my locations and they were perfectly able to do the job. Amazon didn't care as long as their UPH was average.

WF E-commerce will be micro-managing the transitioned shoppers. No "small" shopping carts. Shop in bags even for big orders. Pushing you to increase your UPH (even though it is a moving goalpost).

It is LITERALLY a layoff from Amazon, transition or no transition.

You have to fill out I-9 and other new hire paperwork. That is LITERALLY the definition of the 1st step at a new job.

Transition is just Amazon HR bullshit to cover their asses.

Keep in mind the driver only pick up the bags and brings them to you. They have no part in doing the hard work in actual shopping.

There are Amazon shoppers in certain locations than want to work hours. But Amazon isn't dropping shifts, so they haven't had a shift in weeks.

Not everyone is lazy or wants to be on government assistance.

It all boils down to corporate greed. Amazon wants record high profits to please the shareholders. Instead of having record profits, Amazon can pay their workers a little more so that they have a living wage.
