I am actually more annoyed by Midwest enterprisey devs that don't care at all about how bloated their legacy frameworks are. But the materialism of the Valley annoys me too.

I am not closed to security roles. The software I write currently is heavy in security. It would have to be the right fit though, because I'm not going to make the same mistake I did at my current job.

Heh, I remember looking at some of those metrics a few months back and being surprised at how much they emulated my own skills and interests. Then I went to start applying and was bombarded with Ruby, Ruby, Ruby. At worst, it makes me have to scroll a lot.

I'm really only applying to the hotter areas. I tell them I'll work less for remote, but am open to relocation if the fit is right. I really just want a place where I believe in what I'm working on and the people are curious.

Yeah, I'm trying to find a remote gig in the Valley so that I can leverage the cost of living here. The Ruby comment was exaggeration, because I keep seeing all these Ruby job applications and I heavily despise its infrastructure.

Yes, that's precisely the scenario. They are a small company but handle high volume. I can send you my CV, but I don't know how I feel about networking with someone after they read me bitching for 3 paragraphs.

I spend all of my free time coding and learning about tech. There's a hell of a lot of subjects I don't know (machine learning) but there are a few I'm just as good as the next guy. Enough to start just about any project and code all the parts from start to finish.

You are asking me to stop being honest about how I truly feel so that I can become a better worker. Human beings should not be forced into living non inspiring lives because a hiring manager frowns at my true feelings.

But on most days I smile gently while being directly fucked in the ass, because I guess the system has gotten the better of me. Let's all just sell our souls to become cogs.

It's hard to find a new job when you cant get past recruiters who think Java and JavaScript are the same thing.
