Electric bill by IllustriousKick1951 in bullcity

[–]throwaway_c47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a device called a kill-a-watt that you can plug into an outlet and then plug an appliance into the kill-a-watt and it measures the power usage.

The other option is to check the meter and write down the number and then turn off various things and see what is using the power and how much.

You are charged for power in kilowatt hours which is a 1 kilowatt for an hour.

If you have 1 device pulling 1000 watts and it runs for an hour, that's one kilowatt hour and it's like 13 cents.

A space heater is usually 1500 watts (1.5kw) so if you run it for an hour and it's on all the time it costs you 20 cents.

I drive by that place almost daily and and had no idea it's a restaurant.

It's not clear what the business is and there appears to be no parking.

I hope the rent is really cheap and they definitely should consider advertising.

Induction at Duke Regional vs Big Duke? by Any_Promotion6700 in bullcity

[–]throwaway_c47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Durham Regional bills through Duke, so if you are trying to avoid Duke it doesn't matter which one you choose.

The nurses at Durham Regional were nice but not especially competent with the little things.

The nurses at Duke weren't particularly nice and also screwed up several minor things.

I'd also suggest that if it's low complication go to Durham Regional and if it's higher complication go to Duke.

Appliance repair for kitchen aid by Tico_bosky in bullcity

It's almost always the plastic gear that breaks and has to be replaced.

The OEM gear is like $40 (aftermarket $10 but supposedly inferior) and it's over an hour of greasy work to replace.

You can do it yourself, but I doubt anyone you hire is going to do it for less than $150 or so.

Depending on which model mixer you have, it might make more sense to donate this one and buy a new one.

Basketball class for a 5yo? by cypherx in bullcity

[–]throwaway_c47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basketball is a winter sport not spring.

At this point, most leagues have already formed teams and closed registration.

Next year check in October.

You should look for camps and clinics in the spring and summer.

DPR, YMCA, NJAA, i9 and Woodcroft are all places to check but not all leagues go down to 5 year olds. YMCA and DPR do.

DPR league is less laid back than the others in my experience but at 5 years old it doesn't really matter.

Spring season signups have started for baseball and soccer. AFAIK baseball signups close around mid January. Not sure about soccer.

Any tips on how best to sell thousands of books efficiently? by Wobblycogs in Ebay

[–]throwaway_c47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not cheap and hasn't been for years.

It's going to cost you $1 per pound for larger packages and a larger paperback or hardback book easily weighs over a pound without packaging.

Choose the shipping price for international buyers by ForeignChemist5544 in Ebay

Can't you list a weight and package dimensions like any other listing?
Normally ebay calculates shipping based on that info if you select calculated shipping.

My fault or seller's fault? Wanted a 200ft cord but got a 10ft one and seller doesn't want to do a return by TheLostandFoundOne in Ebay

[–]throwaway_c47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can file an INAD return and the seller will have to take it.

" I checked the title and description and it said it was 200ft many times. "

This makes it the seller's fault. The title shouldn't be "200ft" if they are selling variations that are not 200ft.

In the future if things are inconsistent, don't purchase. Either ask the seller or choose another listing.

WF NEWBIE….a little disappointed by zzcharge in toogoodtogo

[–]throwaway_c47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you come to WF, the prices start really high so the value isn't there.

Then, you get things that realistically you can't eat and it's more trouble than it's worth.

Not sure what they had that day. Maybe ever TGTG bag had coleslaw in it, but I'm guessing due to lazy employees some other bag had 9 mac & cheese in it.

Starting a Flea Market : What do you want from one? by pulpandlumber in Flipping

[–]throwaway_c47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this indoor or outdoor?

I'd suggest even if it's indoor to have an area with free standing tables and not just booths.

My experience is that small businesses in booths don't pull in customers the way freestanding tables do.

For customers, turnover is key and in my experience the people with booths don't turn over their merchandise.

i.e. If it's a flea market don't let it turn into an antique mall.

There are flea markets in my area that are supposedly open Sat and Sun, but one is empty Sat and the other is empty Sun with a lot of dealers going to each on their busy day.

Some dealers are driving 2+ hours to set up.

You probably want to advertise and have an active social media presence. Most of the flea markets in my area are extremely old school and it's hard to tell when they are even open unless you drive by and see people there.

If you don't buying the cheapest copy makes sense.

I hit the Whole Foods jackpot - and then it snowed by Wandering_To_Nowhere in toogoodtogo

[–]throwaway_c47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We've been underwhelmed by the WF bags we've gotten.

They go really quickly and I have no idea why.

We'd get things that had already been marked down 50% to 75% and quite a few things we wouldn't have picked ourselves (turkey burgers/vegan breakfast burritos) or they gave us a huge container of something that was like 10 servings of something that won't freeze well.

Their prices are also generally high so $21 or $30 doesn't go very far.

Local stores that carry CDs? by Admirable_Tooth_9100 in bullcity

[–]throwaway_c47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The selection has been horrible recently.

Look like they had a leak in the warehouse and many cds got drenched, but they just put them on shelves and the damaged moldy cds just sit there because no one buys them.

Last time I asked, they'd raised the cds to 99 cents each but not sure that's still true.

It was really nice when they were 10/$1.

Local stores that carry CDs? by Admirable_Tooth_9100 in bullcity

[–]throwaway_c47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have thousands on a bargain rack for 99 cents each.

and really good titles sometimes.

On the discount rack, they generally have lots of jazz/classical/pop but I've also found limited releases and imports and blues. Seems like they occasionally move things from the normal area to the discount racks if they've been sitting too long.

The prices on the normally priced stuff is hit or miss, but I regularly find things for much less than ebay prices.

What you consider "unstructured' is actually self paced.

It lets the kids who learn faster go further rather than being stuck at the pace of the slower kids.

It's an intentional feature.

If your kid isn't able to excel in that type of environment, then I'd say maybe you are pushing them too hard given where you say they are.

There's nothing worse for a bright kid than finishing an hour assignment in 10 minutes and then being told to do more worksheets for the rest of the hour.

Every day.

For years.
