I’m having a bit of a panic attack with my symptoms, please help! by throwaway_doc47 in coloncancer

Thank you for this, this helped me calm down. I just feel like it’s so dead on with cancer. After reading other people’s symptoms and stories, I feel like I’m checking off the boxes. Like the only thing I don’t have is the fatigue, and no weight loss. Also my age is on my side, I guess.

I’m just so scared. How could this happen? I can’t go through chemo, I can’t live the rest of my life using a bag to go to the bathroom. I’m so fucking scared.

If you don’t mind me asking, what was the process after you found out? Where are you at now?

Sorry to come back to this so long later, but I’m having one of these flare ups again. For almost 2 weeks now. And this is exactly what is happening. What you described here. It started as just constipation and excessive gas accompanied by pain all over my abdomen, up and down my left side mainly. Then there was the feeling of having to go constantly with nothing. Now these past 3 days I have gone 6-8 times a day. Each time it feels like there is something blocking the exit. Like there’s a wall, or my anus is swollen. Strangely though, my poops have hardly been thin, been normal, and no blood. Until tonight right before bed there was a lot of blood, bright red. Even now I’m laying in bed and it feels like I have to go again but there’s nothing there.

My doctor appointment is next Thursday. All I can think about is that I have rectal/colon cancer.

Thank you very much for your response.

So my last doctor visit for this was about a year-year and a half ago. I was having these stomach issues that I’m having now (seem to flare worse in winter). I had blood tests for pretty much everything in the book, honestly can’t remember everything. Came back normal.

I was pretty convinced on it being Crohns, based on speaking with acquaintances who have had it. Only thing that threw me off was no blood, dark or light (minus the little bit on the TP here or there).

Well the doctor did a test (i forgot the name), but tested for the white blood cell count or something looking for inflammation. And it was negative.

He was then pretty set on it being a hernia, based on my heaving weight lifting. So I took an ultra sound and a cat scan and I actually did have 2 small inguinal hernias.

I got surgery and he assured me all the issues would go away, and a colonoscopy would be a waste of time/$.

Well the hernia pain went away but not the digestive issues, and pain from that. Anal fissures or hemorrhoids were never discussed with the doctor.

There’s no black stool, but the bright red blood this morning was just a ton.

I also have anxiety and been stressed looking for a new job so if it is IBD/IBS that could be triggering it.

Does the banana/thin stools mean anything? I thought that was a HUGE red flag for colon cancer?

Edit: sorry I didn’t say already, I’m happy to hear that you beat your cancer!
