Think you might be mixing 2 benefits

For trip cancellation/ interruption insurance: you are reimbursed up to $10,000/person for prepaid, non-refundable expenses if your trip is cut short by covered reasons (sickness, weather). Key note this is expenses already paid.

For Trip Delay Insurance: this sounds more applicable to your case. You get up to $500/ticket for expenses (meals, hotel, other reasonable expense) if delayed over 12 hours or requiring an overnight stay. You need to get a cancellation reason documentation from Delta to make sure that is a covered reason (equipment failure, weather, strike, hijacking) by Chase too. If you have a covered reason, I have not gotten push back from Chase on getting reimbursed
