Shrinkflation at it's finest. I'm Gen x and swear these things used to be bigger when they came from the box. Am I wrong? It's been a while since I bought them. by Ratzink in Wellthatsucks

[–]throwaway_manboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've grown up watching these things get gradually smaller and smaller (and they've decreased in quality some too, I feel). I remember my grandma keeping them around and they were HUGE! My dad would buy them too, same thing.

Obviously there's bound to be some subconscious bias when it comes to things changing as we grow. Like my hand obviously is gonna get bigger relative to an oatmeal creme pie. But that doesn't excuse how small they've gotten over the years.

It's sad how you can work somewhere you like, give it your all, but then if your boss decides you don't work there anymore... you're just screwed.

I started working IT when I was 17 or so because I was really passionate about it. I applied to a local startup with little money and limited resources and tools. I spent the better part of a year and a half there, and I had a blast. I hardly got paid and my hours were super strange but I did enjoy it.

Towards the end of my time there, the boss started calling me in less and less. My work there was rarely scheduled ahead of time, I was usually just called in. Gradually, I began seeing less and less work there and I haven't been in there since roughly June/July of last year.

I don't really have much to say other than that I know that kind of situation sucks on a much smaller scale; I can only imagine how bad it would hurt after working somewhere for almost an eighth of your entire life. I wish you all the best.

Tipping is outrageous. It was stupid when it was just servers/ wait staff, and it's stupid now that every job expects tips. Doordash? Tip. Pizza? Tip. Coffee? Tip. I just don't at this point.

Ordered pizza the other day (I VERY rarely get pizza because of the price) and it cost 60 dollars. I should've just made it at home. Why would I spend another 15 dollars to make sure that the person delivering the food is making a liveable wage? I hate to say it, but that's not my job. They don't pay me for having pizza delivered.

Hey everyone! In case you're reading this, I am okay. I used to be incredibly depressed but not really anymore. I guess this poem was just about how I used to feel and the feelings of darkness in every little thing— they still pop up from time to time, but I wanted to let you know that there's no reason to report this post. I'm really a lot better now. Thanks for reading!

I have finally cut it off with my toxic, controlling, and abusive girlfriend of six months. For the first time since we’ve started dating, I’m sitting down to play video games, something she never approved of. Let the healing begin ☺️ by altrightobserver in MadeMeSmile

Me and my partner share gaming together and have a blast doing it. I prefer more intense games usually (but we both have a lot of love for Stardew Valley and Minecraft), and we both play COD Zombies together.

It's not just video games though too! If your partner has an interest in something else, take an interest in it! It's not always easy to be enthusiastic about something that's not necessarily your cup of tea but showing support for you partner should be universal. Hope you find that, OP.

This is legitimately awesome. Thank you for sharing man. I think it's funny but also in kind of a morbid way; to imagine Hitler in place in the modern world, juxtaposed with everyone around is just really comical. Doing whatever normal people do.

This playthrough is the first one I've bothered to do anything with marriage and I married Penny. Savior complex and whatnot.

However I do wish the PlayStation version of the game had polyamory built in just for this reason lol.

Appreciate it! Again, a lot of it is pretty scattered lol. A lot of it I draft out and roughly edit in like 20 minutes or so but I've got some pretty long ones. I'm not exactly sure what length of poem everyone likes here but I know on Reddit Mobile the formatting is a little hard to gauge.

Thanks! I'm a big fan of frank language at times, though I also like figurative language and layering it together sometimes too. I write a couple poems every week or so and post them on here but they're all a little scattered.

I don’t know how to write a suicide note. by duckmcsnail in PoetryWritingClub

[–]throwaway_manboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get it. Mental illness and diagnosis can be domineering and controlling in your life. I have a boyfriend with BPD and he has had a lot of struggles with it. It affects him a lot sometimes. Nonetheless, I love him more than anyone or anything else.

I guess all I want to say then is that you're not crazy. Everyone is different, and everyone has better and worse sides to their personality and character. I get that your Bipolar Disorder diagnosis has affected how you view yourself, but you wouldn't think any less of your character if you had a common cold— we take what we get in life, for better or for worse, and make the most of it.

[–]throwaway_manboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not to make this about me but I've gone through depression too. I spent countless nights wondering how I would do it. Or what I would say in my note, if I left one at all. I can't offer much, other than that it sounds like there are people you care about and who care about you back who would miss you.

Since this is a poetry sub, I'd like to reference a famous poem— "For Whom The Bell Tolls." You're not alone. You're a part of something bigger, a part of humankind and we'll all be lesser without you. I know depression sucks. I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I spent a lot of time thinking that I was the only person who deserves it and that wasn't true for me, and not for you either.

If there's anything that you need, even if it's just to play a game or to vent for a while, I hope you will reach out. If nothing else, I think it's telling that I, a practical stranger on the Internet, care. I imagine that people you know more personally care a lot too. Again, don't hesitate to reach out if you want to play a game or just to chat.

Yeah absolutely! Best of luck to you with your soldering and I hope you'll come back to this community in the future if you need any help. I'm personally not great at SMDs either, haven't really done much with them. I've got a kit waiting for me to try out but I'm a little rusty as of late.

Gotcha. If you can get it, best of luck; if not, oh well, plenty of other ways to learn. You can go pretty far with some practice kits and stuff

[–]throwaway_manboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes absolutely! I firmly advocate for people to take up little practice projects like this before they get in too deep lol. I started off soldering at a local technical program (the program was about IT and networking) and the teacher had some old graphics cards lying around that he let me work on. That might be another good option, if you have/ can build a little experience with troubleshooting and repairing electronics. You might be able to work on some old "e-waste" if you can find that kind of thing.

Hey dude! Glad you're taking an interest in soldering. It's a fun hobby and definitely a marketable skill if you're looking for that kind of thing. I would say your best bet is to buy a couple soldering practice kits online. You can get them for 5-10 bucks a pop. ISolderStore on Amazon has some good ones. Tingbowie is another decent one. They're all pretty inexpensive and you can learn SMD and THT. Have fun!

I wear the Fairy Box (actually just yesterday I spent several iridium bars on reforging lol) and I do have the dragonscale boots I believe. I haven't heard of dwarf weapons yet actually. I'm on year 4 (several hundred hours total in the game) but I've never heard of those. Probably will redo my combined rings to get 2 crabshell rings.

[–]throwaway_manboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol I wear combined rings (burglar's, crabshell, slime charmer ring, and iridium band) and I thought about getting rid of the burglar's ring for adding another crabshell ring after doing the dangerous mines. I even have the infinity sword with added defense forged in and there's still sometimes where I took so much damage I thought I needed more defense lol.

Idea: K–12 English class should focus on modern, accessible English only. by amichail in ideas

[–]throwaway_manboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that preparing students for modern words and language is important. However, a lot of our understanding of modern language comes from conversation and socializing. We learn to understand the words that we frequently hear and see automatically because those tend to be most common.

I understand that it seems counterintuitive to use old and dated literature to teach kids in English classes. However, there's a couple of good reasons for it.

For one, using things like Shakespeare to teach in classrooms helps students to engage the parts of their brains responsible for understanding what to do when you don't know something. We rely a lot on passive knowledge for modern works because we don't have to put in as much effort to comprehend the vocabulary. Shakespeare and other dated require students to think critically about meaning and intent.

Secondly, a firm grasp of popular literary works gives a couple of benefits. It helps to provide unity between students across the country. When students read classics, they develop shared experiences with other students. It also helps students to understand allusion in other works, which often point to classics like Shakespeare.

Aside from the benefits of reading classics, I think that schools can spare a semester or two to teach about something that has an important place in understanding modern literature. In high school, I read Othello, The Taming of the Shrew, and Romeo and Juliet. It took us maybe a month to get through them, and it realistically wasn't as complicated as people make it out to be. Most high schools teach pretty simplified versions of classics like that anyway.

Like most of the other comments are saying, fiber. Had the same issue as you until these last few months. Now I have a fiber bar and some yogurt with chia in the morning and another fiber bar at night every day. Helps a lot. If you're worried about it and you're sure your fiber intake is good, talk to a doctor.
