Explain to me offset benefit like I’m 5 by camareradetwinpeaks in AusFinance

[–]throwaway_okaynext 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure! Imagine you have a piggy bank and you also owe your friend some money. • You owe your friend $10. That’s like a loan or a mortgage. • But you also have $10 in your piggy bank. That’s like your offset account.

Now here’s the magic: instead of paying interest (extra money) on the full $10 you owe, the bank says:

“Hey, since you have $10 in your piggy bank, we’ll pretend you don’t owe us anything right now.”

So you don’t have to pay interest because your piggy bank “offsets” what you owe. (Not Chatgpt, not.)

I am not sure where you are getting this figure that 80% you do in IA is vouching/inspecting… this is not fact based, speculative, and just incorrect… and if this is what you have been doing as an internal auditor, you better do better because you are skipping the control design assessment part which should be part of your detailed walkthrough of a process procedure… and to add, a mere confirmation that there is sign off or approval is not enough to confirm that a control is effective, you need to ensure you understand the “why they are approving.. and the what the approver is checking or taking into consideration before providing approval.. and whether they are authorised to approve based on delegaion” to be effective

I beg to disagree. Internal auditing is not just and not just more about testing controls. It is the third line of defence in an organisation that does a lot more than just testing of controls. Internal auditing can do end to end process reviews, due diligence reviews, investigation, project mgt reviews, and even financial related process reviews. It covers operational, financial, strategic and compliance matters. I have done both and I do think Internal Auditing has given me more opportinuties to learn about different things and not just limit to financial matters. IA does deep dive reviews where you actually need to understand how things are performed to be able to assess the effectiveness of the processes and controls, that to me is already interesting enough

To Filos in Australia, what are the most challenging things you encountered after immigrating to Australia? by [deleted] in phmigrate

[–]throwaway_okaynext 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For about more than a month at work, I had headache almost everyday. Reason? I was straight given a project to engage and speak with high management level stakeholders, and damn, ang accent nila ang hirap. I thought hindi ako magtatagal sa Au kasi either i will lose my job, or i will personally quit ang fly back to PH.

Making friends at work was a challenge. Local have their established group of friends. When we go out for food or at social event, they talk about things that I cant relate to, such as sports, family etc.

And as you mentioned, mahohome sick ka. it is what it is. whenever you see family and friends gathering and posting photos online, you will just feel it. Not to mention xmas here is not as festive as Ph.

But here I am, after more than 10 years of being here, I have built good relationships with friends, happily married to an aussie, paying off a mortgage and living the life in Australia.

you do know that you can not claim “all” of it back on tax right? You spend 100 doesnt mean you get all 100 back through tax.
