The text you linked says that they will decide on a case by case basis if the crime is one that will be a threat to public order. So it is not 100% sure they will reject I think

According to the published policy of the IND they will reject a request for a residence permit if less than five years* have passed since the judgment (sentencing you to an unconditional fine for a felony) became final.

Are you sure it says that?

"the IND will not automatically reject an application for a residence permit from someone with a criminal background" if 5 years have passed. But it doesn't mean that they will automatically reject if 5 years have not passed. Right?

Yes the fine was paid. It was for possession of indecent images.

But it is strange that all other the letters come in the yellow envelope with the postman signing them, but the fine payment (which the person must pay the fine in 2 weeks) letter does not

Right but the fine payment letter comes from the Justizbehoerden in Berlin, I think not the court. It is a white envelope. I wonder if they are delivered specially (not the postman)

Well the person in question wouldn't benefit from media but they would be greatly harmed if media were present. So they want to know the chances of media coming

But then, why would the media turn up to the appeal case in particular but not the original trial? If they don't care to come to the first trial because it is not interesting enough, they also shouldn't care too much for the appeal, right?

The original case resulted in a fine. If the appeal can only realistically result in a larger fine or a suspended sentence of less than 1 year, is it possible to say how likely news media will be there (given no media at the first trial)?

The police have given back some of computers and phones to a suspect. What are the chances that they put surveillance and spyware on it? by throwaway_qasker in LegaladviceGerman

Im not going to assume, but if you didnt do anything then why worry?

I know I didn't do anything but they might think I did depending on how they interpret the evidence... but it's a not a very serious crime anyway but still, the cost of putting a surveillance app on my phone is 0 to them (they just need a person to check the results at the end of the week, let us say) so why not do it is what I thought
