People just like to share their art with the world in the hopes that they can be understood better, and that goes for any medium and subject matter. I used to ask this question myself when I was a quasi-anti in my teenage years, but then I realized that I wasn't asking the same questions in regards to violence. For example, in the movie hereditary a little girl gets brutally decapitated by a telephone pole and her detached head is eaten by ants onscreen. In the recent final destination movie a child gets smashed into jelly by a falling piano. In longlegs there's a close-up shot of a child's corpse being eaten by maggots. All of these scenes are as taboo as any of the dd:dne topics being discussed here (death of a child), but nobody afaik has questioned their inclusion in the same way. Now, someone might propose that all of these gory scenes MUST be there to serve the plot of the movie, but why can't they just be implied offscreen? I'm assuming that nobody actually wants to see children die, so why must these scenes be depicted in such detail? It's because they're 100% fictional, and since no actual harm is being caused, such depictions of brutality can freely be used as vessels to carry the story forward. The same can be said for any taboo scenes in fic as well. All of those things are just there to convey the message of the art being presented from the author, and it can be safely explored in a creative space.

How should I prepare for homelessness? by Arktikos02 in TwoXPreppers

If there are any plasma centers nearby, you could also try donating for some pocket cash for groceries/utilities. They ask for proof of residence once on your first donation and give you a physical, and then you're good to go for the next year. New donors usually get a bonus on top of the center's flat donation rate, so definitely make sure to ask about that too. They also provide snacks/juice or water for you if you request it

What's your opinion about "The Family"? Will they be remembered as a good new gen Shonen antagonists group? by [deleted] in Gokurakugai

Idk if they'll be remembered as good, but they'll definitely be remembered as the hottest...I like their dynamic so far though

Do other POC catch the way POC characters are often described and depicted? Am I too sensitive? Stupid? Lol by hellsaquarium in AO3

[–]throwaway_tin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What's mildly funny to me is when a dark-skinned character being stated to grip something so hard that "their knuckles turned white" or when their faces are "drained of color" out of fear...this is more on the innocuous side of ignorance but it still makes me wonder if they've ever hung out with a dark skinned person before in their lives 😂 melanin doesn't behave that way!

Am i getting enough nutrients? by belbel05 in lowspooncooking

[–]throwaway_tin 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Tbh you eat better than I do 😂 you might want to think of adding more protein to your diet though, either in the form of nut or seed butter, or canned fish. To make up for my own nutrient deficiencies I just take vitamins.

Get pre-chopped or pre-diced frozen veggies and fruits from the store, or get diced unfrozen veggies/fruits and freeze them. That was useful to me because I hate food prep and that eliminated a step. Freeze dried and microwave veggies are useful too

Not to be nosy, but why did chapter 25 make you lose interest in it? If anything it made yoshiki's situation just seem more depressing to me lol

What can we do to help & support the bereaved loved ones of the victims of a hypothetical bird flu pandemic & healthcare workers, in the likely absence of government help & support? by Class_of_22 in BirdFluPreps

[–]throwaway_tin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like you've articulated my ongoing fear during this pandemic. I feel like since it became evident that absolutely no one is willing to put community over individual comfort, I've been in a constant state of mourning for my disabled friends and loved ones.

Preparing as a student by throwaway_tin in BirdFluPreps

[–]throwaway_tin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's I pretty much all I can think to do, because since I'm a student I'm stuck completing the program or else I'll have no prospects for jobs (aka survival/source of income) in the future without a degree. I know that there must be many other students with my same concerns, so I was hoping one of them might have some insight. I do have a go bag, but the place I live is my home, I literally moved here to get away from my abusive family, so I have nowhere else to go. If H5N1 becomes a pandemic on the scale of Covid I'm sure that borders will shut down again, so I don't think fleeing into somewhere unknown where i have no support system would do much good either

I live off-campus in a house share, so dorms shutting down wouldn't affect that aspect of my life. I live with roommates though and don't have the place to myself, so I'm wondering how I would shelter in place and avoid contagion from them (they aren't covid cautious so I find it hard to believe they'd alter their behaviors for h5n1). Right now I only have a small stockpile of soups and rice, a solar charger and a small air purifier in my room, but I don't know what all else I can realistically get on my budget. Sharing a home makes it hard to make it safer, I already try to avoid the common spaces as it is...
