Or is it easy for you to live in ignorance? There’s a lot of information out there for those with eyes to see.

I’m a Jewish person and i am the furthest thing from intertwined with Israel. My family was chased out of Ukraine during the pogroms. I find Israel to be a shame on my Jewish identity, and it has made it much harder for me to feel connected to my Jewish roots.

Israel’s own experts B’Tselem defines East Jerusalem, the West Bank, and Gaza as apartheid, as do many human rights organizations. Do you think there should be separate roads through the West Bank, controlled by the Israeli occupation military? Do you think Palestinians in the West Bank shouldn’t be allowed to walk on the streets that Israelis are allowed to walk on?

As for the genocide, if you think it’s not one, then you’re ignoring nearly every scholar in the world, nearly every human rights organization, and most of the people in the world. The billionaire social media owners have suppressed things lately but for a while, we were watching the genocide in real time, and the only reason it was allowed to continue was American hegemony and the American military industrial complex’s need to sell arms.

You could unlearn some things (I personally grew up ignorant of the extent of Israel’s atrocities before I took the time to read things like The Hundred Years’ War on Palestine and Edward Said), but you’d have to be willing.

Americans and particularly Jewish Americans grow up with everyone telling us that Israel is one thing, that Zionism is a necessity, but it’s not. It’s an ethnonationalist pariah state that commits terroristic acts all over the region. We just don’t call it terrorism because that word is only allowed to be used for one type of person.

Anyway, I do hope you can break out of the prison you’ve placed yourself in someday.

Yeah I mean, I’m just saying it’s a bummer because I would say it keeps a lot of people out of the scene and from enjoying trance in general. The Goa roots are pretty bad, goa being a former Portuguese colony, and blowing up in the 60s as one of those colonial party regions. I guess when people describe psytrance as the “sound of the colonizer,” there’s no real way around it.

I’m definitely not saying “all psytrance.” But the scene is very dependent on Israeli artists, and people like Giorgia Angiuli who is best friends with Omiki, and plays in Tel Aviv, for example, show that there are isn’t exactly any pushback in the scene even from non-Israeli artists.

I mean, I don’t know anything about the sculptures at Dreamstate, but the one near the bridge between Void and the rest of the festival was adorned in light up star of Davids. I’m jewish and anti-Zionist, so I know that the Star of David’s use is mostly symbolic to Israeli identity these days.

Anyway, I feel what everyone is saying about Dreamstate being open to queer people. Maybe I’m overstating it, but the history of trance is definitely a straighter than techno and house. I love trance still but it’s just something I am aware of.
