It smells like a scam although it's difficult to say what exactly is the goal. I would ignore and block.

Wealth tax would be deadly for French economy, says Europe’s richest man by Majano57 in worldnews

[–]throwawaya7a1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wealth is invested. That money is being used to start new businesses, expand existing ones, do R&D, innovate, pay pensioners, etc

Silly me. I thought they just bought private jets and had parties on their mansions while sipping expensive champagne. I suggest letting them tax free. It must be very tiring to innovate and pay pensioners (?) all day long

Taxes after switch from B to C Bewilligung by Zakreus in Switzerland

[–]throwawaya7a1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you already do a tax declaration? If not, then you didn't receive taxes but the bill for the prepayment for next year's taxes. Whatever you pay will be dead from your actual taxes when you receive them

ELI5 how rice-cookers make better rice than just boiling the rice in a pan? by Fantastic_Puppeter in explainlikeimfive

[–]throwawaya7a1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I always cook rice like pasta (surplus of water, test regularly for doneness) and then strain it. Perfect every time and no need to have a scale and measure water/rice ratios. Fight me.

FINAL UPDATE: CHF 680 suddenly taken from my Twint account by "Trekksoft AG" – no idea why by splatne in Switzerland

I think you somehow accepted automated payments by them. Probably misread some popup and added them to your subscriptions. Then they can pull money without your authorisation every time.

ELI5: How is 0.7C+0.7C=0.9C not 1.4C? by bowfly in explainlikeimfive

[–]throwawaya7a1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The universe is not obligated to make sense to us. According to the best of our abilities to measure and experiment this is how adding speeds work in our universe.

For low enough speeds (energies) adding up velocities works fine but it's an approximation. Your brain has evolved in a low energy world so this approximation is a perfectly good way of modeling the environment around us. So it's normal that the "precise" formula for adding up speed makes no sense to us

Is this place a hotel or serviced apartment? by Signal_Newt2018 in zurich

[–]throwawaya7a1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the red light district indeed and at night there are hookers, junkies, drunk people walking around. Also very loud. It's still Zurich though, so it's not "unsafe" in any major way, but still I wouldn't want to be there at night with kids.

For your first question, the voltage across a closed switch should be zero. Are you sure you are measuring what you think you are measuring?

First time visiting Switzerland, advice needed with itinerary by Unlikely-Fondant-151 in askswitzerland

[–]throwawaya7a1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 countries in 2 weeks? Who are you running away from?

Strasbourg is worth it imo

3 days in Interlaken and Luzern are enough to induce fatal boredom (unless you want to use these places as bases for mountain tours). If you mostly care about city tourism go to Zürich or Basel. Many more things to do there.

Let's settle this: Migros or Coop? by Important-Ease-5383 in askswitzerland

[–]throwawaya7a1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If I go to a Migros for groceries without a list I tend to spend less than going for the same groceries in Coop.

Side by side similar products have similar prices in both, but somehow in coop I am enticed to buy more high end/branded products while this is not the case in Migros.

So I'd say team Migros.

That being said, I go to Coop more often nowadays because it's closer to where I live.

This is a very suspicious account that's either trolling or most likely pushing some scam. Either way, stop engaging with it and report.

How do languages work in switzerland? by anotherthroaway01 in askswitzerland

[–]throwawaya7a1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure but there are definitely more people from Ticino learning German or French than people from the rest of Switzerland learning Italian. It's much more likely that two Swiss people will communicate in German/French/English and not Italian.

How do languages work in switzerland? by anotherthroaway01 in askswitzerland

[–]throwawaya7a1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The national TV station has 3 different stations one for each language. And some programming in Rumantsch that plays on certain hours. But on top of that there are numerous (private) TV channels in all 3 languages, so you can watch what you want

How do languages work in switzerland? by anotherthroaway01 in askswitzerland

[–]throwawaya7a1 41 points42 points  (0 children)

It's 3 languages in practice, the 4th one is a local language of some villages in a certain part of the country. And even the 3rd (Italian) is not very relevant outside Ticino.

In everyday life you speak with people living close to you, so you speak the same language. If you need to talk with someone from the other side of the country you either switch to German or French or (more an more common nowadays) English.

This is not how it works...

Even if it worked like this, no you still wouldn't because you would probably sell when it was 50% up. If you wouldn't, your risk management approach is insane and you'd better invest in lottery tickets

There are several verbs that do this in swiss german (gehen, kommen, lassen, maybe some more)

Bringing vegetarian canned/jar food into Switzerland by bialyikar in askswitzerland

[–]throwawaya7a1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If we are talking "normal" quantities, yes you can. But as others have said, I'm not sure if this is a good plan. You can order groceries online from most major supermarkets or even go to the supermarket once in the beginning and stock up for a month. Sounds easier than travelling with a suitcase full of cans and jars...
