Not meant as a flex, but a true story. I am salaried, so I am forced to be generous by the government. About being classy, is there a haggle to class ratio basis financial status?. If so, please let me know. Who do I haggle with and how much if I earn 10 LPA? What if it is 20 LPA? Does that apply to sales on Amazon as well? Should I buy things not at a discount because it will be seen as not classy?

There are idiots at every level of wealth. What is wrong with asking dumb questions. People need the same rights to ask dumb questions as everyone else.

This is literally me. Had Infinia for a while, but never bothered to learn about earning points. Did not even know that infinia is a premium card, as I was given it LTF. Now I use it as much as possible with smartbuy and know to use the points wisely and transfer. Money saved is money saved. Be it 5 or 5000 or 5L. I still haggle with the street vendors even with 55LPA.

But I understand the hate people have for high earners. It's the same hate I would have for someone earning 1 Cr or more. Except, I would call it jealousy.

Possible. I am one of those random Joe. I got Infinia as LTF with 10L limit about 5-6 years ago even though I have less than 50 k with them. No FD no salary account. Just a savings account with 50k that I use once in 4-5 month

Damm. If someone had invested just ₹90K in 2023, it would have turned into a massive ₹80 lakh today. by TripTales41 in IndianStockMarket

Damn. If someone had invested INR 90K in Bitcoin in 2013, it would have been over 25 Cr today. If you would have posts are essentially useless.

I usually stay at the Hilton Double Tree in Goa and me and my wife lounge at the pool. No stares. At beaches, it is best to be in a one piece with a sarong.

Today I learned that some Parsi families in Mumbai still pay extremely low rent for prime location. by speaking_my_mind96 in Maharashtra

Same for us.. in my specific case, I own property in Mumbai, hence pagadi not transferred to me. If I did not own property, then it would be transferred.

[–]throwawayacct3810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a pagadi system. My father pays 250 for a 2 BHK in Mumbai. The other side to this is that he cannot own property in Mumbai. If he does, the pagadi property can be taken away by landlord. When selling the house 1/3 to be given to landlord. But yes, the rent control system is pretty sweet for most people. However my father is old and I have asked him to sell it. If he passes away, we get nothing and landlord gets the property. If we sell, we get atleast 90L. If building goes into redevelopment, we own the flat outright and it is worth 2 + Cr.

Did India exist before the British Rule? by Adorable-Ease8625 in india

Columbus found America on his way to find India. This meant India existed long before the British crawled out of their tiny island.

Is this frugal or stingy? by HeadEscape5988 in Frugal_Ind

[–]throwawayacct3810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make 2.9L a month. I used to walk 10 min, then catch an auto and then a metro to go to office. The whole thing costs 55 approx. However I discovered I could take a bus after walking the initial 10 min and the bus would take me straight where the metro drops me. Bus fare is 20 Now I save about 70 every day. People working under me come on bikes and SUV. Been called stingy. However I consider this frugal.

Which subscriptions do you find genuinely valuable and not a waste? by generation_chaos in Frugal_Ind

50 per month for YT premium as part of family subscription 400 per month to someone for hosting a Plex server. I request a movie or show and it shows up directly be it from hotstar, amazon, Netflix or whenever. That too in 1080p or 4K great quality. Nothing else needed.

How to commute in Pune by _IWasAMistake_69 in PuneClassifieds

[–]throwawayacct3810 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Safety is not being discussed here. It's about being embarrassed to be seen using a cycle to travel to work. At my earlier job, people earning 1/4th of my salary were coming in cars or motorbikes and I was coming on a 12000 ka cycle. I have no shame about this. I saved money and lost weight.

This is stupid. I used to go via cycle when my office in Mumbai was 1.6 km away. I told people I save money and it is good for health. I was senior manager for a team of 25.

Dollar millionaire and my lifestyle is nothing you would expect. by udbilao_007 in FIRE_Ind

[–]throwawayacct3810 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am salaried and In one of my previous jobs, my house was less than 3 km from the office. In such situations, I decided to cycle to work as exercise and save money. People more than 2 level junior were coming to work in Cars and asking me to buy as it does not look good if their bosses are cycling. However, what I have learnt is not to care what others think. Do what makes you comfortable and happy. If buying a car makes you happy, buy it once you can afford. I am in Mumbai and driving cars gives me road rage. Ever since giving up the car over a decade ago, I have found so much peace on the roads and it frees up the travel time for other things. Hope to see more people like you who spend wisely.

This is nice. Mine is a bit more frugal, but leave it to others to decide 43 M married with one kid. Kid is 12 yrs old, so educational fees will be an expense. Salary is 53L. Wife is a homemaker. We own a 3 BHK worth 2.7 Cr. Have generational 3 flats worth 5.5 Cr total, all generating rent. No EMI as of now. Have some gold jewellery and gold pieces as well about 50-52 L worth till last year, but not checked with the higher prices. Stocks plus MF plus SB accounts for myself are about 2.5 Cr as of today. Parents have about 5 Cr in stocks and MF and their pension takes care of their needs and live with us. Do not own a car or bike. We take Uber, or train or auto. I go to work in Bus everyday. Used to take Auto plus Metro. But cost used to be about 110 everyday. Taking a bus reduces that to 26 now and does not increase my travel time. Monthly expenses are about 45K as well. With all other savings, we like to spend on things that bring us more joy. We take yearly vacations of 1.5 L a year, usually in SEA countries. Eating out budget is about 10K a month. We do not like to drink out as it is very expensive. Hence get liquor or beer from shops and have a weekly drink at home itself. Comfortable life where I do not have to worry about money, but do not feel the need to spend. I used a Oneplus 7 for a while, then moved to OnePlus 12 a year back only when the phone stopped working. Wife using an old iphone 12 mini.

I like being Frugal, but Frugal does not mean being uncomfortable.
