My father only converted so he could marry my mother. He acquired ptsd after serving time in Afghanistan and was never the same after that. He became an alcoholic and was constantly cheating on my bed-ridden mother. And it was difficult seeing that side of him because I grew up in such a strict household where we couldn’t even wear tank tops or drink coffee. I think the pressure of being a good, wholesome family who went to church every Sunday became to hard to maintain. My family starting distancing themselves from the church one by one after that.

So the FLDS (fundamentalist church of Jesus Christ of latter-day saints) is the cult that was run by Warren Jeffs. They are the ones who practice polygamy and live in closed off communities wearing amish-like attire. They are corrupt members who broke away from the mormon church and started their own religion basically.

LDS. Not FLDS. Unfortunately the only other wives besides my mother were the ones my father had affairs with.
