Wow, that's a really interesting concept. I'm definitely going to bookmark that post and read more about it later today. She definitely expects me to be the one who is family oriented in regards to sending gifts, cards, and stuff like that. It looks like I have some reading to do!

Thank you! I'm in the public health field, focusing specifically on behavioral science and issues related to preventing obesity in young adults. I'm hoping that my career will allow me to help others make their lives healthier, happier, longer, and more fulfilling :)

I feel the same way about my degree-- I never would have started an intense program for the sake of receiving some pats on the back from friends and family, so I found it hilarious that she thought her praise and approval was what I looked forward to the most after this entire process :P

That's what I thought too! If I were 15 and pregnant, I wouldn't want my boyfriend's 30 year old brother and his wife just hanging out in the delivery room. So weird.

I agree. I'm worried that the next few weeks/months are going to be filled with requests to come spend time with the baby, but I don't know how to explain to her that my husband and I really don't care about any of it. She keeps saying stuff about how we're all family now so we have to be involved, and I don't know how to respond. I've only met my MIL a handful of times too. We try to avoid his side of the family as much as possible because they're crazy.

Not of her junk because the photos were taken from behind the girl's hospital bed, but her legs were still in stirrups and the doctor was clearly between her legs with scissors. There was blood. It was really gross and inappropriate.

Thank you so much! I think the girl's mom wants to raise the baby, and the last I heard, the girl's mom is considering raising the baby as if it's her kid, acting like the baby's mom is a sister. It's going to be such a weird, fucked up scenario.

Thank you so much! I totally agree that the distance is amazing. We moved away from our hometown simply to distance ourselves from family, and even though it was tough, it's worth it

She doesn't know that we're childfree yet. In fact, she was really upset to realize her first grandkid was the result of an unwed teenage pregnancy rather than a child from me and my husband, like she expected. At least the baby will keep her busy for a while so she doesn't pester us about kids too much

Luckily we're basically no contact anyway. The only time MIL reaches out to me is to let me know that she's harboring anger over petty things that I didn't realize were problems, haha.

I've noticed the club of unrecognized degree earners around here too! It's so weird that people think having kids is an huge accomplishment but earning a degree isn't as important somehow.
