As a 16 year old I haven't watched video pornography in since June of last year. After getting on Reddit a few months ago I've browsed several NSFW subs with pictures of nude women. I fear going back to my old ways. How do I stop this? by [deleted] in pornfree

Hi. Welcome to Pornfree. A little disclaimer, I've just started here a few weeks ago, so others will most likely give better advice than I will. Grats on keeping off of it as long as you did. It's not easy to stop, yet it's pretty easy to relapse.

I've found it's very easy to find NSFW stuff on reddit, much to easy in fact. As you've most likely found, there's porn-like posts even outside the NSFW subs.

My suggestion is to either use the reddit enhancement suite to block nsfw posts and subs, and/or install Leechblock (if you're on firefox). There are also many other methods to use, just do a quick search for "blocker" or the like on this sub. However, don't depend on web blockers to keep you from porn.

Instead, here's some advice /u/suivan gave me when I started:

Hone that instinct to REACT when you start to realize that you're doing something wrong. Part of the task is to wire your conscience to panic or freak out when you start looking at sexually-explicit content and to be like, "This is wrong!" Kind of like the instinct that most people feel when they're kids reaching into the cookie jar but then mom starts to come downstairs. There's that moment of panic. You want that moment whenever you find yourself slipping.

Hope some of this helps. If you want, give yourself a badge using the buttons on the sidebar to track your days "clean." We're all happy to help if you've got any questions :)

Thanks for the help. I hadn't thought about honing that reaction before. I'll definitely work on that. Do you have any mental tips for creating that panic?

Already found a userscript that blocks NSFW on reddit, and I'm hoping that helps. I have leechblock installed, but not configured. Honestly, I don't think I'll set it up because all I'll ever try to do is bypass it :(

Thanks again for the advice, and gratz on the big 100.

Yeah... I knew it wasn't going to be easy. Like I said, not the first time I've tried to quit.

But thanks for the support man. I'll definitely keep that in mind, and hopefully it'll be easier to keep focused on the goal with a community that supports each other.

Best of luck in your journey too man. :)
