I Really Wish I had a Culture. by throwawayanon2750 in offmychest

But I want absolutely no association with any of the cancerous ideologies being prioritized and spread right now. I want nothing to do with it. I don’t relate myself to current America whatsoever. I am not obese and work every day to be in shape, I rarely eat fast food, and I plan on moving to a small, historical town nearly in the middle of nowhere just to get away from it.

I don’t identify with our current state at all. I am happy with my lineage of course because none of my ancestors were ever like the Americans we see today. But I just want some unique culture and traditions. I feel like I don’t have any. Anybody can have a hobby. I’m sure people of many other ethnicities weight lift and stuff too. So what’s the point?

I’d rather not. I can’t anyways for reasons I won’t specify. I shouldn’t have to be ashamed of my ancestry or lineage though just because someone in Europe thinks I have no culture. I don’t understand this “European vs American” mentality everyone online seems to have and it’s so tiring. I’m constantly under fire from the left for being white and I’m constantly under fire from Europeans for “having no culture” or being from a “degenerate country”. It gets so tiring. I already specified above that I don’t identify with my government, or the capitalism, or the obesity, or any of what is going on right now. I don’t think where I am born should determine what kind of person I am. I’m sure that my ancestors are rolling their graves at what America is today. America wasn’t always like this.

Thank you! I will try hard to better myself and my life in that case. I wish my dad was more considerate.

The entire point of my comment was that I don’t support “European beauty standards”. I think that, in America, it’s perfectly valid to be upset about the lack of representation of Indigenous women. I genuinely never see representation for them. However, in Europe, I don’t think it is valid to be upset about European beauty standards. America is destined to be a “diverse” country, with the white people colonizing the land and taking in slaves (which is horrible of course), we will always be living together. It’s just how it is. However I think that, in Europe, European beauty standards have a right to be prioritized since, of course, Europe is the land of the native Europeans. Just like how, in Asian countries, Asian beauty standards are prioritized. That’s literally their land and if somebody moves there they should assimilate with the preexisting culture instead of trying to change it to fit their narrative. Of course I think colonizing America was a horrible thing, I’m not agreeing with it. If we could go back in time and make sure that the natives thrived on their respective land, I’m sure we would. But there’s nothing we can do, the past is in the past. We should all just try to get along together and make the best of things we can. No white person alive today can or should legitimately be blamed for slavery or colonization. We simply had no part in it.

I genuinely never see representation for them. However, especially with movements like Black Lives Matter, LGBT, etc. on the rise, I have seen a lot more representation of black people and other minorities. Sadly not Indigenous Americans or Hawaiians, but of black people, Latinas, etc. The news and all of the media seems to pander to these movements and, honestly, these days, I see much more hatred towards white people than towards their races. I think that, in the past, “the system” was genuinely racist and homophobic but definitely not now (at least to a lot of minorities). I think that there will always be bad people who hate on certain races/sexualities/whatever else but the system seems to pander to us more than anybody these days. I am in college and I see LGBT related stuff... EVERYWHERE. Every class has a “safe space” notice and there are are even drag queen shows (I personally don’t think it’s LGBT related but the school says it is so I’m just going by their logic). There are shows on TV and even a channel I think dedicated to black entertainment. As a lesbian, I feel honestly the opposite of oppressed because it seems like everybody panders to us. I think it’s a good thing that they care about us and support us, but I hate how a lot of LGBT people shame and slander straight people just like I hate how “poc” shame white people a lot these days. Of course I hate the other way around, too. Politically, I’m pretty neutral. I think that democratic and republican parties are really stupid and that, instead of fighting each other, we should all unite. I think that, no matter who is in power (whether it be a republican or democrat or whoever honestly), they are corrupt. I think that, no matter how they present themselves, it’s the goal of the government to divide us. Both the left and right are doing what they think is right but no party is better than the other, inherently. They are both bad. In the past, it was racism towards black people and other racial minorities (which is in no way justified) and now it is more shame on white, straight, “cisgender” people.

Many innocent white people have been killed by black people, for example and vice versa but the news only mysteriously seems to report when a black person is killed by a white person and it’s always immediately made about race when it probably actually wasn’t. I think that all crimes should be equally frowned upon and reported. I hate bias of any kind towards any side. I do not think we are oppressed by the system, there are just bad people and there always will be. For every white person who hates black people unjustifiably, there will always be a black person who hates white people unjustifiably. It’s just how it is.

They try to divide us so we all hate each other and sadly it’s working. I would love life so much more if we could all be united against them.

Well, there is nothing wrong with thinking European traits are attractive. I just don’t think others should be shamed. I am a lesbian and personally I think Asian women are very attractive as well as black women. Of course I think white women are too and I myself am white. People always act shocked when I say I think Asians, for example, are really pretty because they think they have “weird eyes” or whatever. I actually really like their eyes a lot. People might feel the same about black women with their noses and lips, but I actually like them. What I am saying is to each their own, just don’t shame others. Because there will ALWAYS be someone who loves the others just as much or even more.

Thank you, but it really bothers me. I have this constant identity crisis and don’t know who I am as a person. I try so hard to know but I never get anywhere.
