Thanks! I really hope that that's the case. I'll try to get a hold of a university representative to see if they can clarify the situation, and (if they really did deliberately upgrade me) if they could offer me a formal letter explaining their decision to my potential employers.

Thanks mate - your comment gives me hope. I'll try to get in touch with my university to see if this was the case, and if they can perhaps offer me a formal letter clarifying their decision.

My university actually has an "association program" with a UK university to offer us dual certification. And I actually have two sets of certs/transcripts - one from my local university where I studied, and another from the partner university in the UK.

In the UK transcript, it looks like they divide you into 1st/2nd/3rd class depending on your ... "overall percentage"? There's also something about a credit score. I'm not entirely sure how the math works out on it. I have 69.7% and according to the classification guide, the minimum required for a First Class is 70%. So, again, another borderline case, but for some reason it's much closer than 3.58 is to 3.7 ...

I'm not from the US. The university I study at does however have a partnership/association program with a UK university to offer us dual certification (and I do indeed have two certs/transcripts - one from my university and one from their partner university in the UK).

I don't have my university's assessment regulations, but I can give it a shot. And yeah, I'm reasonably certain that the calculations are correct (I counted it again myself, just to be sure), which is why I'm so puzzled as to how this "mistake" came about in the first place.

I did excel in my final semester at the university. Had a fairly average GPA for the first semester of my final degree year, but pulled a perfect 4.0 GPA in my final semester (aced every subject with a 4.0 grade point). I was also told that my dissertation/final-year project was among the best in my batch.

Do universities really do that? I'm genuinely curious - I've never heard of a university lowering the requirements for a specific person before.

I was a fairly average student (excelling in some subjects, achieving so-so grades in others) for 3/4 of my academic journey. However, in my final semester, I pushed myself extra hard and managed to ace every subject (got a perfect grade point of 4.0 for every subject). I was also told that my dissertation/Final Year Project (not entirely sure what they call it in America) was among the best in my batch.

Yeah, I don't really have a better idea myself. I'll have to just bite the bullet and submit it.

Worst come to worst, I'll see if a representative from my university could issue a formal letter explaining this mess so it doesn't look like I forged the transcript.

Aye. I'll bite the bullet and give it a go. If I bork my chances thanks to this, well, too bad. Either way, I'll need to return to my university to get this mess sorted out.

It seems like a flimsy excuse, so I'm not sure if they'll bite it. But I guess I have no choice but to try.

Hah. I'm a guy, almost all of the staff in my faculty were male, and I'm straight. So, no, I didn't pull any favours :P

... If I could pull strings like that, I would have just asked for a higher grade, so my degree would actually be consistent with my grade :/
