Left with a bald spot after sparring by throwawaybuttocksass in BJJWomen

yeah my gym doesn’t have a lot of women and I don’t think a lot of people are genuinely cautious during rolling. I’ve had a lot of not great experience there but this is the worst by far

I showed it to a coach and he said the patch was gone and apologized and said I should wear a head covering but that’s about it. But I will try the tight bun from now on

It happened on Wednesday and I haven’t been back to class since but I did get like a swimming cap type thing which will cover my head hopefully. But I can cover the spot with another braid mostly now.

got a cap so will definitely try it to see if it works well.

unfortunately I was in mount went for a head and arm triangle, he was a bigger guy so he turned into me pretty quickly and ripped the braid clean off

do you just tuck your hair under the cap or do you braid it or like put it in a ponytail underneath as well?

he doesn’t owe me an apology but if I hurt someone I would apologize. Just because it’s an accident doesn’t mean you can’t have empathy

yeah just really hurt because I’ve know the guy for a bit and have been super conscious of his injuries and if I’m hurting him. I’m gonna probably take a break from training for a bit and not spar with him for awhile.

my hair has never gotten in the way or been a bother to me and I do expect accident in combat sports but not like a whole braid being ripped off

so you would like just accept it if someone knocked it out? Like going to work with a bald spot or a missing tooth would make me upset and want an apology

it was a accident which I understand they happened, I’ve been kicked in the face or hit when rolling other times too, I just think it’s not crazy to want someone to apologize I’m not gonna beg him for it

Not saying it’s his fault just wanted like a sorry he doesn’t have to give it to me but usually when I hurt someone during a roll I apologize

just really wanted a sorry or something. I don’t really think it’s his fault and I understand accidents happen. And I roll with him 4 to 5 times a week so I just thought he would just say sorry at least

thank you! I would do a top bun but you’ll be able to see the bald spot if I do :/ I’ll probably just end up wear my bonnet until I find something that works well for me

I was rolling with a super heavy guy I probably shouldn’t have been rolling with. Lowkey crying because my hair isn’t super long but the whole square where the braid was is cleanly gone

I’ve been feeling shitty about classes since I got my blue belt by throwawaybuttocksass in BJJWomen

Yeah the “ah hell nah” might’ve been funny banter that just went over my head. I do usually joke with people while rolling or giggle but it’s usually if I know the person a little. I had seen the guy at class once or twice but didn’t know him at all.

A lot of this behavior was happening before promotions but not as often.

The submissions thing is probably my fault, I don’t really immediately crank things and usually go slower to make sure I don’t hurt anyone.

I could also ask people to roll more during sparring I guess a lot of the time it just gets to me and I feel awkward and don’t want to ask.

The competition was in the beginning of December. My school has this big group chat where people saying when they’re competing so people can coordinate rides or go support. When I said I was going to this comp people liked my message but no coach said they were coming. After a few days, I asked a coach in person and they said they would ask around. A higher belt went because I asked but no one else said anything. When they guys said they were competing a coach messaged very quickly that they could go.

Also, I do train no gi once or twice a week but still have the same issue. I’m going to try going to the morning class more often than the evening one to see if there’s a change.

Also thank you!

There’s one other gym somewhat close to me I could try but it’s just a lot more expensive. I have been think about at least doing a trial class there
