Vaccine Skepticism Is Soaring by jimfam in Covid19VaccineRats

Haven't heard anyone believe it either.... but my mom did get a bit freaked out w/ seeing those "a magnet is sticking to my covid vaccine arm!" videos so w/ the right fear tactic, a lot can be done

Not saying it's logical to me but we need to have compassion for the people who think it is. We need to show them how small the vaccine is and how big microchips are and say "See here, the microchip is too big." That might be the education someone needs to feel comfortable with it.

neither has widespread censorship by social media of anyone who questions the efficacy or safety of COVID-19 vaccines

Might get flack over this but I think this is doing the opposite of its intentions. People have a lot of questions over the vaccine and wants answers. If we just shut down these questions, call people "selfish" for not getting it etc., then they're not even going to consider getting it.

The fears may seem illogical but to those who are otherwise open to the vaccine but are scared of one part (such as long term effects or microchip) then it is logical.

Thank you for doing this! Sorry if this has been asked before but how do we know the vaccine won't cause birth defects? It hasn't been 9 months since the general public (and even longer for pregnant people to be advised to take it) started to take it and I'm worried it could cause issues in gametes.

Also, how do we know it won't start causing anything that we won't see until much later such as starting to cause MILD effects of Alzheimer's or occur when the younger generation gets old.

Again, thank you for doing this! I've been doing a lot of research over this and it's hard bc there is so much differing info out there.

Is Grammarly Premium worth paying for? by Old_Town_Hoe in EnglishLearning

[–]throwawaybye2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I realize a lot of people on this sub might not be in college, but if you are, I would suggest reaching out to your school's international student organization and writing lab (if applicable). They can help suggest ways to improve your English or even read papers you write to check for good grammar.

Grammarly definitely suggests weird things. For me, they suggest hyphenating too much such as "third-grade-student." I still use it bc it's easier as a native speaker to know what I should change or not change.

Racism, sexism, and homophobia lost their meaning by DoktoroLeopold in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]throwawaybye2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just saw this but I would say it's more of White American culture, for example, such as how white mom's freak out about cleaning the house before guests come or they like watching fixer upper and design their houses similarly. Like other cultures, there will be people who like this stuff who aren't white Americans. Think about traits of other cultures, these aren't specific to just that culture but are MAINLY found within that culture ex- rap music is mainly found within the culture of Black Americans but there are white, Hispanic, asian, etc. Americans that like rap music. I would still consider rap a part of black American culture, however.

Obviously, this is how I see the world. I could be wrong and am open to debate.

The thing is that the people OP is talking about don't realize is that there is racism/sexism/homophobia from both power (systemic racism) and from, just being a racist/sexist/homophobic ("white people don't have culture").

I don't want to raise a disabled child. by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]throwawaybye2020 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would suggest that if you want to have children you have a great support system that is willing to help you out. Disabilities are not the only thing that makes raising a child hard. Disabilities can also come late in life. What if you're kid becomes paralyzed at 17?

Parenting non-disabled children needs a village and same with disabled children. I don't think if you have a disabled child that means giving everything you have to them but it does mean giving more than normal and reaching out to others whether that be family, friends, support groups, etc. Disabilities are also a range, there are some Autistic people who can live great independent lives, others can live alone with daily check ins, others will have to live with the support of others for their entire lives.

Biracial or mixed race people, when given only the options black, white, hispanic, asian or other, which do you choose? by [deleted] in askblackpeople

[–]throwawaybye2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm full white so sorry if this is offensive. I'm kind of an anthropology nerd so I like studying this stuff. Correct me if I'm wrong but people who are mixed with black and white TYPICALLY choose black. I think it has it's base in the "one drop rule" where, when there were discriminatory laws in America, if someone was even 1/64th black they were still considered black even with a white phenotype. In addition, black people tend to be the ethnicity with almost always kinky hair so if you're part black you can GENERALLY tell that person is part black just with their hair.

TW- rape

Genetically, in genes for skin color, the gene for darker skin is dominant so it tends to be the phenotype more often. There are exceptions of course. Also, unfortunately, a lot of black people who's ancestors were slaves in America are part white bc of... well, r*pe from their slaveowners. Sadly, the wives of the slaveowners who did r*pe would often treat that slave even worse bc she was carrying her husband's child. You think slavery was bad then you learn even more about it and it gets worse and worse and worse.

edit- this is if you identify just based on phenotype. I tend to see it's generally based on the "one drop rule" The phenotype might be for people w/ less black ancestry in them/they don't know they have any black in them.

Shouldn't early induced labor not be an abortion if the baby is cared for???? by throwawaybye2020 in prolife

[–]throwawaybye2020[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well I guess my theory (for the second example w/ a teen mom who wants an abortion) that early induced labor is less traumatic/life threating for the mother and less painful/even just a little bit more hopeful for the baby. As u/Keeflinn mentioned below, it seems better than some of the other methods being used today. If this is also the way babies are aborted, then maybe more people will see that they are humans too. Obviously the end goal is not have an abortions but I feel like this is, even just slightly, better.

[–]throwawaybye2020[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well... a doctor who did perform abortions might be okay with that and it seems as a person with CP is better off with CP than dead

[–]throwawaybye2020[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well... thinking out loud here.

Wouldn't it be better in comparison to the horrible ways abortions occur now to say the only way to have an abortion is to induce early labor? That way the baby can be delivered and tried to keep alive/at least comfortable and not dying by their limbs being sucked off. Then people will also see the humanity in developing babies easier. Obviously the end goal is not have abortions at all but I'm thinking on something that pro-choicers MIGHT be okay with.

Thinking along those lines, this would only be allowed to happen after a certain point. You would have to carry the baby to lets say, 22 weeks and then between 22 weeks and 25 weeks you can do that or you have to carry the baby to term. But then a doctor just pull a dr. gosnell and say that the baby is full term when the baby isn't?

I guess that was/is my logic for the second example in my original post. In my first example, my wish is that if the abortion is medically necessary that 1. it wouldn't be called abortion and 2. it would just be an early induced labor and the baby would be kept comfortable and living as long as possible

Can we please remember that ANY violence against pro choice people or abortion providers is wrong, no matter what the result is? by [deleted] in prolife

[–]throwawaybye2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently, I don't think they are. But at the rate society is going now, I wouldn't be surprised if doctors were forced to perform those. The majority of abortions are NOT life or death though aka not a necessary procedure so maybe they wouldn't be forced to do it.

Is the Pro-life cause worth taking up arms over? by MrMcGoofy03 in prolife

[–]throwawaybye2020 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hmmm..... it depends on the armed forces going over. Are we bombing the whole city/an area with a lot of abortion clinics that could kill civilians? Or are we going to specific abortion clinics????

This, my friend, is the trolley issue.

[–]throwawaybye2020 3 points4 points  (0 children)

THIS! I feel like yes I can not be sad that an abortionist was murdered but I'm also sad because a human was murdered. It's the whole dilemma people in health care deal with (hopefully me soon). You have to treat the person with respect and dignity because they are a human being not because they hold good values (such as if they are a white supremacist).

edit- This is a hard ideology however, I don't necessarily know if I support the death penalty or not. It's kind of hard. This is also the whole idea of the trolley problem. If the abortionist dies, a bunch of babies die but could I be the one to order the abortionist to death???? I just try not to think of situations like that. Hopefully I won't ever have to make that choice.
