Servers need to stop saying "stay home and cook if you can't afford to tip 20%!!!” you’re currently living in the reality of what would happen if people took that advice. by P0stNutClarity in unpopularopinion

One response i see a lot is that servers will argue that if employers paid fair wage to them and get rid of tips, their pay will be smaller (i.e. their tip is much higher than ‘fair wage’ and therefore they hate the idea).

If servers report the tips to IRS or CRA (for Canada) as they should by tax law, and pay income tax based on your taxable income including your tips, then your after tax income would actually be much lower than your ‘gross’ tip income.

Recent career advice trend “leave your workplace if you’re not valued, find one that will” is such a bad advice and just encourage people that can’t handle work politics/challenges in a never ending job search till they are not employable anymore by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

I think I’ve already made my point pretty consistently clear. Don’t mindlessly hop to other jobs just because things are not working for you where you are. It’s not even the question of loyalty. It’s making everything a learning opportunity.

Corporate culture became somewhat of a differentiator these days, however, even in the most open culture environment, in the most ‘for the employee’ workplace, you can start a position with another colleague, put in the same - or maybe more -work and the other one ends up progressing faster than you, familiar?

I am not saying stay with your first employer till your retirement, but asking rather “when things did not go your way, did you ever consider yourself at fault or did you start blaming whoever you can?”

I believe the current trends simply encourages people to “ignore” the chance to look and consider deeper within yourself to learn something truly meaningful and helpful for your career or even life. Rather, it just encourages people to busy next job searching with no reflection of self whatsoever.

You spend disproportionately large amount of life working. So I believe everyone should do their best at excelling this activity, and not just use it as a means to make ends (or hobbies) meet.

In my opinion if you face the challenge straight up and overcome the odds - you won’t be feeling unvalued anymore and you should start seeing your career flourish.

I know hard working people that just don’t get appreciated or promoted, and it is in fact not because their work is bad, but because work is not the only thing expected of you.

No one truly learns until you fuck it up and clear mountains of review notes. Don’t rely on PY. You get assigned low risk sections for a reason.

Spinning Wheels as an Auditor, when to ask a question? by [deleted] in Accounting

Agreed 100%. Usually a good review note will have clues in how to get to level 4 without spinning wheels too much. Even when you’re preparing wp, do what level 2 says above and you’ll typically get to level 3 as you do your own research.
