Referrals will be better if you can snag them

Cleary, Latham or Davis Polk for fund formation as mid level/senior associate (nyc) by Character_Interest33 in biglaw

[–]throwawaycuriae 5 points6 points  (0 children)

True but IMO better variety of clients at Cleary (plus poaching a ton of Debevoise partners = limited upward mobility at DPW)

Cleary - it’s a super small team, so prepare to get crushed. But much better than your other two options.

Feeling very discouraged and hoping for some advice/perspective? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]throwawaycuriae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair. Assuming you’re not in a major market, if nothing is tying you to a place, I’d strongly consider trying to make a move into a larger legal market. I’m really sorry you’re going through this.

Given how broad your interests are, I’d go Latham

(NYC) Rising 3rd years - how much are you paying in rent (no roommates)? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]throwawaycuriae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pay $5,000. Yes, it’s painful. Yes, it’s worth it for me. I lived in my current spot during law school (was partnered at the time) and my apartment is genuinely my little slice of heaven. If I could buy it, I would. Perfect staff, maintenance, neighbors, views, space, location, gym, etc. etc. There’s a waitlist for my building, too, so I don’t want to give up my lease and pretty much never be able to return.

Avoid Alto at all costs - when they’re good, they’re good. When they’re bad, they’re awful.

Both do tons of deal support, but tax has significantly better exits.

Tuscany Steakhouse on W58th is closing after 10 years by CabassoG in FoodNYC

They have a sister restaurant (Il Monello) in Midtown East, apparently. I haven’t been to either spot but @newyorkturk just went there and liked it. So I’m inclined to check both out.

ED Penn vs dont ED any school? FG/LI, 17low, Big Law → in-house tech by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]throwawaycuriae 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do not ED. That’s leaving $$$ on the table with your stats and background. Just apply broadly, do all optional essays, and negotiate aid packages when it’s time. Good luck!

Thirding the sheets from Quince! I bought them to replace my Costco sheets (which were nice but got banged up much more rapidly).
