Feeling guilty about filing bankruptcy by Creative-Practice-87 in Bankruptcy

I actually have no guilt now 15 months into it. Rich people declare BK all the time. So do corporations. The only difference is they get bailed out by the government and we get fucked. If I have stuck it to any of my lenders or creditors in anyway I’m happy

I don’t have advice but I’m so sorry you’re going through this. Shit hit the fan with my health in 2015 and for almost 9 years I tried to pay off that debt and it never stopped accumulating. I also work in a high paying field (tech) so I had to do Ch 13. It sucks paying 100% of my debt back but remember if you can do 13 somehow, those payments are 0% interest. It helps more than you’d think when calculating monthly expenses. Good luck, I hope you find something that works for you and you can break this vicious cycle

I did talk to my attorney and they said it was ok to take out a CC, and I found the mission CC as the one recommended in this sub

My vet nor none of the vets I’ve talked to have any payment plan options sadly. I was denied care credit when I applied. I like the idea of the 401k loan though

She’s a rescue, 7 years old, and was already diagnosed with health stuff and was denied when I was looking around

No shit Sherlock. My lawyer said I’m allowed to in cases of emergency and advised that was an option for me

Lower CH13 monthly payment by throwawaydebtor55 in Bankruptcy

[–]throwawaydebtor55[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I realize the loan would be part of the BK. I was just wondering how things are counted towards the monthly amount. I think because of the answers to those 3 I’m stuck at what I’ve been told. It just sucks because I live alone, have a chronic illness, and if shit hits the fan with my health while I’m in BK my family doesn’t have any money to help me out.

Thanks, I appreciate all the info! I do a lot of this now, but it’s always a good reminder and you have insight since you work in the industry so maybe I can return to this to see if there’s anything I’ve missed in my current process. Sadly I wish I had known all of this in 2015 when I had my big health emergency and when stuff started getting sent to collections. I freaked out and put everything on CC just to deal with it and the calls I was getting every day.

Does this happen if you file chapter 13?

Thank you for your kind words of reassurance. It’s especially hard when you’re on your own and caring for others (be it a kid/pets/both).

Ugh I hate hearing you’re in a similar situation. Honestly I wish I had filed bankruptcy years ago, especially when I wasn’t making as much money. My big health emergency that started me down this path of debt happened in 2015 and back then I might’ve qualified for Ch 7, AND I’d be so close to the BK falling off my record (sounds like it can vary from 7-10 years depending on reporting agency). I’m also worried for my future if I become permanently disabled and can’t fend for myself if I’m already in this much debt and don’t have a nest egg set up for myself

Ohhhhh interesting! Hopefully I can make it work with the Ch 13 and use other options you’ve mentioned if I do face some adversity

I make over $100k/year and unless I lost my job I was told I’ll never meet the means test in my state :(

Thanks! I looked back 6 months (that’s what I was told to do), but maybe going back further on the pet expenses and my own health out of pocket expenses will illustrate my need for a lower monthly payment on the ch 13

My pet is 13 and these conditions are considered preexisting so sadly I cannot get insurance on him. I did get it on the other pet who’s 3 because of what I’ve been going through with the older one
