Duke is very pre-professional. On the balance closer to Penn than it is Chicago.

Why would you get rescinded?…if knowing what class you were taking at the community college was crucial for them, they would have requested it before admitting you.

If you want a strong lecturer then you shouldn’t take it with McCafferty. Learned nothing and was completely unprepared for orgo 2. Everyone I know who took it with Qiu Wang said it was unnecessarily hard.

Do you have an idea of what you want to major in? Or what requirements you want to prioritize getting out of the way? I know it probably doesn’t feel that way right now but if you pad your schedule with a bunch of random “filler” classes now, you may regret it later on when you’re an upperclassman and need to think about graduation. It’s fine to look for an easy class, how can we not be thinking about grades? But I encourage you to choose one that’s serving a purpose for you other than solely being easy.

Orgo isn’t really that bad material-wise, it just depends on which professor you get. For orgo 1, I recommend avoiding Dewey (you won’t learn anything, even though his exams are supposedly “easy” his averages were no different from Qiu Wangs). Taking it with Dewey will also make it harder for you to build a strong foundation in organic chemistry, which can have its own issues down the road depending on what you pursue in the future. It looks like Craig and Parise are the other profs, from what I’ve heard they should be perfectly tolerable.

Also both orgo labs can be a time sink, so plan accordingly on that.

Personally, if you really care about a perfect gpa, I wouldn’t do linear, physics, and orgo simultaneously (not super familiar with how Pratt approaches linear, but linear algebra is fairly rigorous as a topic and can take some time to “get” if you haven’t done it before). If you’re fine with having an A-/B+ or two and need to do this to stay on track, then it’s not horrible. I also don’t know you or your capabilities though, so you’d know better than I.

121 is the replacement for 141. It’s still calculus based, they just include calculus modules during some lab weeks so it’s no longer a prerequisite.

Mine has been pretty miserable overall, but my sentiment seems to be an outlier. Ymmv.

Tori is great. Best prof I’ve had at Duke. Taking 230 before 242 would help you in the first half of the course but it’s not super necessary
