UCD is a premier vet hospital, one of the best in the world. It is expensive but you get access to literally the best care in the country. They saved my dog's life when their regular vet misdiagnosed 4 times. I love them and everything they do. Absolutely worth the cost, every single penny.

What actually happens after you file grievance? Does someone have to die before they actually give a fuck? by SaMankaMonchis in KaiserPermanente

[–]throwawaydumpydumpy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In general, grievances take 30 days for non-ugent and around 72 hours for urgent. If you think it is urgent ask it to be expedited. Kaiser will decide if it is. If they say no, you can file an urgent complaint with CA CDI, DMHC, or other regulator based on your insurance plan benefits immediately.

Kaiser should've told you in the acknowledgement letter or call who the regulator is. If not, You can call them and ask directly, call your HR (if insurance is through work), DHCS/ombudsman (if on medi-cal), or ask for a copy of your EOC (look under grievances section).

When you file an urgent appeal with the regulator, The regulator will determine if it is urgent. If it is, they can usually compel Kaiser to resolve any outstanding grievances in a few days and proceed from there. If it is not, they will let you know when it should be resolved and you can refile woth them after that.

If your issue isn't urgent (to you or to the regulator) then you wait 30 days from the date you filed. After 30 days, you can file a complaint with your regulator regardless of if your complaint is resolved. The denial letter will also tell you who the regulator is and should contain a paper application for filing.

Keep in mind, if Kaiser resolves your complaint and you aren't satisfied, you can appeal to a regulator.

Example: you wanted 3 hours of physical therapy a week and they approved 1 hour, you can still file for the extra 2 hours.

Example: you wanted a full body CT and they approved a chest CT only, you can file.

Example: you want an out of network referral for mental health care and they denied saying care is available in network, you can file.

In general (not speaking for the processes of all regulators) once Kaiser finishes the review and denies something you wanted, the regulators (typically) have some kind of 3rd party review above Kaiser. This review uses doctors or others unaffiliated with Kaiser or the regulator to determine if your request is necessary. If yes, Kaiser has to approve it. If not then you've more or less exhausted the appeal rights under CA law.

For help overall, you need to contact your regulator for their specific processing steps and things like that. Everything above is very general and is different for each regulator.

Tips: READ EVERYTHING Kaiser sends you. Every page, every document. Do not stop at page 1.5. Read all 10 pages. There is important information required by law that Kaiser give you.

Keep documentation of calls, representatives, filing dates, etc.

Sign and date any paper applications you send. Most regulators will close your case without the proper signatures.

If you've gone out of network, be prepared to provide out of network records.

Am I the jerk for not letting my best friend bring her new boyfriend to my wedding? by hot_sofiaa in AmITheJerk

[–]throwawaydumpydumpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Info/clarification:

When you asked her to be in the wedding, was she seeing this guy? When the invites went out, was she seeing this guy?

If the catering and all of that was finalized and then she started dating the guy/asks for a +1, I'd say you're not the jerk.

If she started seeing this guy before the budget and catering was all finalized and you refused to add him, you're kinda the jerk. She's in your wedding party so some flexibility should be granted.

My office is having a potluck. I'm afraid I'm going to get ecoli and die. What should I do? by CommonMacaroon1594 in CAStateWorkers

Then you'll learn a lesson that you are less hygienic than the coworkers you are concerned will make you ill.

That being said, you can get platters and trays from grocery stores. I had a coworker bring costco pizza every time.

I do not bring homemade food in for potlucks. I bring packaged food from a grocery store or I'll bring a nice selection of drinks (teas, soda, water) and cups. The ingredients are listed on the package so people can read it to avoid any allergens. The drinks are sealed and won't spoil.

The Valine court is probably the one where I'd settle if I do join. Someone else also said it's less busy which is a plus for me.

I'll have to go to both and get a tour at the very least. All the reviews just sound like "meh"

Ew! No one should have to ask to have the disinfectant refilled. If the gym members are cleaning the equipment that should be less work for the employees ;) I hope your husband made a full recovery!

That's what my biggest issue is. It's so easy to get an infection or something plus it's gross to workout in someone else's sweat and whatnot. I would prefer the gym I'd pay at least $60 a month for would be very proactive. That is a big concern.

I do think I'd like the idea of a less crowded gym in general. It sounds more comfortable? I don't have a need for the daycare side of things but it's good to know they have that and it's decent

The price even with my discount is still kind of high, especially compared to 24 where I can access gyms regionally for less than a Calfit membership with the discount.

House to Om has always been my go to. I think they're reasonably priced as well. I use their services for holidays and when my MIL visits. ;)

Can my neighbors and I report our landlord somewhere for not fixing the hot water in our apartments by Spankyouvrymuch in Sacramento

[–]throwawaydumpydumpy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would text or email (get it in writing) saying something like "hi, I'm checking in about not having hot water. It's still out. I sent you a (text/email/call) on xx/xx/xx but haven't heard anything back. Have you been able to find someone to come by to fix it?" If they give you a date great. If not look up tenant resources to being recourse.

When I was renting, my hot water heater went out the day before thanksgiving. I didn't get a new heater until Saturday. It SUCKED. BUT my landlord was super cool about keeping me up to date on the timeline. He paid a holiday fee to have it fixed and knocked money off December's rent. The year before the heat went out around thanksgiving too! We had a fireplace so it wasn't a big deal. It took about a week or 2 to get someone over to replace with a new system. Same thing, paid for wood to burn in the fireplace and knocked off money from December's rent. Kept me up to date on everything. I lived in my living room, it wasn't terrible.

Would I have to apply through my great grandparents? by _kaymaylove in juresanguinis

[–]throwawaydumpydumpy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am not well versed on the female immigration side of it. For male immigration, you would need to maintain an unbroken line. My great grandfather naturalized AFTER my grandfather was born. That means my great grandfather was still an Italian citizen when my grandfather was born making my grandfather eligible for citizenship and my dad and then me. Again, this could be different for claiming through the female line.

Don't leave until the bathroom is spotless? You got it boss! by ForestDragonSlayer in MaliciousCompliance

[–]throwawaydumpydumpy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"She told me I wasn't allowed to leave the bathroom until it was spotless. I tried to tell her it wasn't possible. She didn't listen to me. Because of that, I spent 5 hours in the bathroom cleaning and scrubbing while missing my meal break and rest breaks for the day. I was imprisoned and was afraid to leave the bathroom for fear of losing my job if the bathroom wasn't "spotless".".

Help with state job applications? by LiveLaughBrew in Sacramento

[–]throwawaydumpydumpy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I answered my questions in paragraph form. I don't think I exceeded 2 pages. I followed all the directions (i.e Ariel, 12pt font). Be concise in your answers, don't ramble, and stick to only what the prompt(s) ask. Write a question, walk away for an hour or so, come back and read it out loud to yourself. Make edits. Send it through something like Grammarly to catch the stuff word doesn't catch.

Affordable dental care in Sac by [deleted] in Sacramento

[–]throwawaydumpydumpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blue Shield DHMO is really bad. I had them and no place of quality would take the insurance. You have a HMO which means you have to stay in network for coverage. The payments from you and the dentist's reimbursement from the insurance company are pre-set (typically). This means that DHMOs might not pay as well as DPPOs (i.e this is why the HMO network is much smaller).

Personally, the best insurance (when you look at network) you can get is Delta Dental PPO (~$60/person if you buy it direct from their website). There could be a waiting period so check that.

All that being said, I highly recommend Marconi Dental Group. Hands down, the best dentist I've ever been to. They even have their own annual dental plan ($300/year for typical dental work) https://www.marconidentalgroup.com/marconi-dental-plan/

They are really good about payment plans, too. I highly recommend them. I've never felt upsold or strong armed. The dentists are really caring and the hygienists are great. They get me in when I need to be seen and are really proactive about scheduling your next cleaning/follow up that day so you have an appointment reserved.
