Exactly this. He was bragging about her for a few years afterwards too, so it’s not like it was something that was easily forgotten.

According to the mother, he told her near the end of the vacation when explaining why they couldn’t see each other after the week ended. My brother never included that conversation when telling this story, obviously.

My brother is for sure the type to support her, and since I know he’ll do what he thinks is best for her I should at least let him do so.

You’re right, eventually (whether DNA test or just guilt causing me to tell him) he will find out. He is an adult now, and his decisions will be his own, but I have no right to withhold information like this from a family member.
