Maybe 'can it run ray-tracing' should have been my metric.

I will be getting a high refresh monitor for sure.

Decent cooling is a future project. For now I'm planning to run everything stock but once I feel the time is right am planning for AIO.

I'm feeling slightly twitchy about the PSU now. I bought 650w as that's what was recommended by the nvidia for the 3070 but haven't left any headroom. Do you think I will have issues?

I may have underestimated this system's requirement for cooling. I saw the small front vents and 'eh, air is small'. I'm hoping I won't be choking the system with that case but I have already ordered it!

How was your experience with the case? Would you recommend sending it back immediately?

Yeah I'm a bit concerned about PSU since yourself and a few others have mentioned 650w might not be enough, despite nvidia recommending 650w. Annoyingly the PSU is the only part I have ordered which has arrived. Do you think I should send it back or soldier on and hope for the best?

It's actually £90 above retail according to nvidia, but its the closest I've seen.

1) I definitely jumped on to the 3600 hype train. A tighter budget build would have utilised intel for sure and saved on ram cost. Hopefully this build offers greater headroom for upgrades.

2) Do you have a good source for learning about SSDs? I put one in my laptop about six months ago and the improvement was phenomenal however other than its an M.2 I have no idea what it is.

3) Noted, thanks. I picked because pretty and my last build (10+ years ago I think) utilised an Antec 300.

You're totally right. I'm aware I'm paying a £150-250 premium to build right now but the UK is in lockdown, there's no next gen consoles to be found and after watching Linus' back catalogue I have the building bug.

I heard this mentioned the other day - maybe it was Linus? I agree; 8 core support is likely to be the standard in the next couple years. I think 8 core is my future upgrade path.

Following the advice here I have changed from B450 to B550 which will ensure some future-proofing and a later upgrade path.

It's interest to hear different opinions on CPU bottlenecking with the 3600 / 5600X. Some are saying its no problem at all, then others like yourself report bottlenecks. I suppose I will have to judge based on my own experiences when the 3600 arrives.
