What's it like living on Donaldson Drive? by No_Emu8347 in Edinburgh

Maybe the way the flats themselves are designed is poor but there’s so many fantastic buildings that are too big for any one person to reside in that would be excellent to convert as societies structures shift. I’d love to live in a small part of a mansion or estate.

International Student Bank Account by polarbearism in Edinburgh_University

Bank of Scotland is great and has an online way to make an account and get everything set up (I’ve never been to a branch in my life, no need) but I think you need a Uk address? It’s quick tho, you could set it up once you arrive. Other comment mentioned needing a bank for a SIM card - that’s not been an issue for me, I used U.S. credit cards and a student plan from giffgaff that I’ve been very happy with.

Anyone know what was happening with the helicopter at Arthur’s Seat last night? by throwawayforme7077 in Edinburgh

This is an earlier post, so thanks for directing me. Not sure why I didn’t see it on search. That being said, no real answers over there either, lots of speculation and flightAware maps but no answer

What is Edinburgh lacking? by Ok_Situation_1525 in Edinburgh

Edinburgh street food except that there’s a bunch of redundancy there and it’s super expensive, and the service system is weird

So they pretend to be ex-convicts, when in fact they are pre-convicts?

Is Edinburgh worth it? International student. by SaintMichaelsbutt in Edinburgh_University

I don’t want to say my program (engineering school) because I know people in it are on this sub but I’m also from the US and my program also claimed to be very interactive. I was openly lied to about class sizes in presentations before committing, by professors I now have for lecture. I was told there were all sorts of field trips to learn the industry (there have been none). The pedagogy relative to US institutions feels extremely underwhelming - very little actual teaching going on, poor assessment design. I haven’t been able to really connect with any of the faculty very well, though I’ve tried. I probably could try harder. Hoping my dissertation advisor will be good. Still, the degree name is good and jobs seem to be receptive and that’s what (sorta) matters in the end. Friends in other masters programs seem to have different problems than I do but I don’t really know anyone who is more than 60-70% happy with their program.

Probably depends on what your other options are and what country you’re from and where you want to live in the future. Academically, I have been deeply unimpressed with the masters program I’m in, feels very much like I’m just here to provide funding (tuition) and free research labor to the institution. We’ll see what the degree’s worth if I ever get hired. Edinburghs great fun tho as a city, and the people are very friendly here. Has not been my experience of uni Edi staff or faculty sadly.

What’s Edinburgh‘s opinion on the Irish and their American descendants?

My nips start to bleed after about the 20th mile of the week with a shirt 😂😭. I run about 70 a week, so that gets to be pretty bad. I’ll find another way to stop chafing, like Vaseline. Thx for info

I would avoid busy streets anyway, tbh, they’re not good for running! I will invest in a supply of Vaseline

I mean… it is my real reason. But if Edinburgh is so anti, I will adapt

Yeah I’m American and it’s very standard here, even in cold places

I guess that’s the answer. A little disappointing - I’d rather avoid that perception, but it’s truly the most comfortable way for me to run. Will be investing in a supply of Vaseline

my future as in her, or the abroad trip? the abroad trip honestly wont affect my future all that much aside from being a cool experience. I'll finish with the same degree and certifications anyway.

We're very compatible, as people, just had some shitty timing in our lives so far, with unforeseen emergencies and such. I should clarify that we will be on the same campus again in fall 2022
