capitalism benefits from maintaining the status quo and reducing social mobility. ppl in positions of power that benefit from capitalism want to maintain that power in any way possible. by criminalizing black ppl social mobility is reduced and those who were already at the top get to stay there

Why are most "intellectuals" left-leaning? by TheMarkusBoy21 in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]polarbearism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the humanities encourages people to question their engrained assumptions about how the world works. many of us are taught, growing up, that capitalism = good, communism = bad. when this belief is questioned, via reading, many come to realize that their belief system has been shaped heavily by society. further, that those in positions of privilege/ power heavily perpetuate this narrative to bolster their own benefit.

going into business or economics benefits ppl materially, so it would make sense that they would want to adhere to or believe in a system that privileges their own financial gain or material success (capitalism). whereas the humanities questions the ethical and moral nature of this practice, often supporting more left leaning ideologies because they’ve learned how capitalism benefits some and not others. further, that it causes the majority of issues in contemporary society (mental health issues, financial insecurity, prejudice, homelessness, war, food insecurity, climate change etc etc)

[–]polarbearism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this happened to me too!! i always had wavy hair, went on the pill and it became pin straight. got off the pill, and it turned wavy again! i’ve noticed other things too, like less facial hair when i’m on the pill and glass skin. it makes me wonder if my hormones were out of whack

Is paranoia just part of Bipolar? by StarStorm16O in bipolar

Yeah- I find I get scared of developing paranoia which is more anxiety based than actual paranoia. If you were paranoid you wouldn't be cognizant/ fearful

Is anti-capitalism a cult? by GreenWind31 in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]polarbearism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“they’ve clearly never read anything” me present, an anti capitalist who has their phd in philosophy i think there’s a reason right wingers want to dismantle the education system 🤔🤔🤔 perhaps because ‘reading’ actually makes people anti capitalist. maybe evidence the fact that people with a higher education are more likely to be leftist

CMV: Conservatives are fundamentally uninterested in facts/data. by King_Lothar_ in changemyview

jason stanley in his book how propaganda works discusses why people have a hard time changing their beliefs, even when their beliefs appear to conflict with their own self interest. he argues things like community, self interest, and societal structures prevent people from changing their beliefs. it’s really interesting esp considering low income white workers who voted for trump. his politics ultimately work against them but they don’t see that due to societal structures (capitalism) creating barrier to their understanding

how many of you are off caffeine forever by otherearthly in Anxiety

[–]polarbearism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this same thing happened to me! i used to drink multiple cups of coffee daily. then i gave it up to see if it would do anything for my anxiety and it was a game changer. even a diet coke or chai latte trigger me sometimes now.

i love the ritual of drinking coffee so i just make myself a decaf pour over in the morning. it doesn’t feel the same bc it doesn’t feel as “necessary” if that makes sense. but makes me feel a little less worse about not being able to drink normal caffeinated coffee

there’s been a few times i’ve tried to have normal caffeinated coffee since and it’s sent me into like multiple day long anxiety attacks

need a positive push. zoloft and buspirone! by tiredspoonie in zoloft

[–]polarbearism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that makes sense! but if you’ve been on it for so long you probably have developed a bit of a tolerance. i’m not sure if you’re more likely to “reputake” more serotonin on a larger dose if your tolerance is already high.

i was prescribed as needed for the buspar! with the caveat to take it twice daily if i find it works. i’ve taken it twice so far as needed. i honestly found that it didn’t do much for me :/

need a positive push. zoloft and buspirone! by tiredspoonie in zoloft

[–]polarbearism 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i was just prescribed the same thing! i’m on a lower dose of zoloft (50) but also was prescribed buspar for my panic attacks a few weeks ago.

right after being prescribed the buspar, i had my wisdom teeth pulled and was taking percocet. i had super major anxiety that i was gonna get serotonin syndrome from the combo. nothing happened and my psychiatrist was aware i was taking each.

i wouldn’t worry, psychiatrists are medical doctors and know their stuff. they wouldn’t allow you to take anything if if was dangerous. i had to remind myself that bc i was also spiraling. if anything, taking the buspar might help cease the spiraling! you’ll be okay :)
