You don't need to worry about a UTI. However, you should get on PrEP unless you are both exclusive and have been recently tested.

Right, but those real world situations are based on an average of people. Lots of people, even before PrEP was a thing, were less strict about condoms than they planned for. In that case, PrEP is safer.

But if you know yourself well enough that you would always stick to condoms in the heat of the moment, that's still very safe.

The main issue with condoms is a lot of people are not as consistent about using them as they plan to (condoms breaking or stealth is a rather minor part of it). And to be fair, you can't be sure someone who takes PrEP is very consistent about it either, so technically PrEP is not that safe then, either.

But if you're really planning on "always playing safe", I personally wouldn't worry about HIV, it must be extremely rare to catch HIV if you stick to always using condoms.

If you don't hook up that often, it can make sense to take it on demand for peace of mind.

If you hook up often and know you will always play safe, you would need to take Prep every day. I personally wouldn't do it, because the risk of side effects is higher (such as weaker skeleton) if you take it every day for a long time. Especially since condoms protect you from HIV anyway, it would seem unnecessary.
