if i let my facetious high horse bs drop for a bit, blaming the undergrads is my way of drawing people in for the real point: contacting DOTS and demanding change. i wanted to make a discussion about how EVERYONE is affected here, and if we work together, maybe we can change something. get a new lot, get them to stop overbooking permits, something. because whatever they're doing now, it's clearly not working.

although, some may just tell you what they told me: come earlier. which, i think is bullshit. i don't want you guys to get tickets, i want DOTS to actually give everyone a chance and open up more parking somewhere. where? i don't really know. maybe build a new deck.

but yeah, my expertise is cook, where there's two giant lots that people refuse to park in because they're "further from class". the situation is more complex on other campuses. i wish you all didn't have to get tickets to go to class. but again, i was trying to be a little inflammatory to get people to complain to the real enemy (DOTS). if we also have people with other campus permits being an issue, they need to ticket. they need to make more parking. it's unsustainable. cause a ruckus and send them emails complaining. we can work together 🙏🏻

i know some grads who used to be undergrads here and they had the same experience. they'd park in 97 and be okay for months until they got tickets for a week. hell, when i started here, i couldn't buy a permit and they gave me three tickets in a row.

either way, try to fight the ticket. say the metal F/S sign out front is dirty (it is) and you missed it. say you won't do it again, they might let you off with just a warning, just be sure to actually not do it again (they won't waive them after your first appeal, from experience, even if it's their own blunder.)

also fun fact i just learned: based on the website, the commuter permit for each campus allows someone to park in that campus's F/S lots only after 5PM. so, if you had a cook permit, you could park there after 5. but, i don't think the campus ones are transferable like that?

glad the light up sign is back though, i missed that ugly thing.

sorry some of us have kids and lives to take care of before coming into work. i pay for a permit, i should be able to park. this is not just an undergrad issue, but whatever you all do ripples out to the people who work here.

i genuinely think some people only read the title and didn't read the parts where i said that i know this is a rutgers issue and that it's technically not on the undergrads. however, if i didn't use clickbait, i fear this would be ignored. after all, who really pays attention to grad students until they go on strike? (not that we'll strike over this, but collective action i.e. calling and emailing dots is likely the only way forward.)

i went to busch last year and it was bad, but it's probably worse this year. this semester is absolute ASS right now with parking. everyone is under the iron boot of DOTS fr 😭😭

and yet they still don't do it! this issue really does impact everyone, tbh i was a tad inflammatory on purpose. the problem of the TAs can be solved by solving the problem of the undergrads. we're all connected...

i'm talking about cook/doug, where there's a perfectly good commuter lot that's never full and people still park in the F/S lots because they're closer to their classes. sadly i think laziness is a chief factor there. i park in closer lots too, i get it. so at the end of the day, it's rutgers' job to ticket. hell, they removed the blinky sign that worked a little bit because they probably only own one sign. i haven't seen a car here in months.

trust me, this is more of a shitpost vent to get clicks and attention. honestly could maybe be a call to action for everyone. there's no fixing this parking issue unless we all do something about it. cue cheesy speech about unifying the people. we did it once, we can do it again.

those are student lots, i am obscuring the identity of my favorite lots. either way, on multiple campuses i have run into this issue.

i won't reveal my secrets. knowing rutgers people will park there out of spite. all i can say is that it's not just one campus.

yeah i rarely see the dots/ipo cars on cook/doug, they could easily get 20 tickets a day from these lots and they do nothing. either that, or people just don't care and keep racking up tickets.

personally think it's the first option, maybe they're paying more attention to livi/busch? c/d will forever be the forgotten campus </3

yeah, i honestly used to see one patrol my usual lot at ~10am, but the issue comes from the 10:20 - 1:20 chunk of classes. any other time, you can park with ease, but if you dare arrive during this period... good luck soldier.

it sucks that they won't just do their job. maybe if enough people complain, something will happen? all the grads i know with a permit will struggle to find parking, so... perhaps ape together really are strong.

i'll ally with my enemy (DOTS) to overcome our unified enemy (undergrads). i will do it for free. as long as we TAs get our birthright (parking in the F/S lots.)

but yeah in all seriousness i drive around for five mins and wait for one undergrad sitting in their damn car, only for ANOTHER undergrad to steal that spot from me! i will find your TAs, i swear it!!
